Fat hippo is by far one of my go to places in Edinburgh. Sunday was such a disappointment. We arrived to what was a very empty restaurant and ordered drinks then food. My daughter ordered off kids menu £7.50 plain cheese burger and to start the cheese bites. We forgot to say no sauce but these were lovely. Lots if not to much cheese. They had been cooked in the same fryer as my wings however as there was flour chunks stuck to the cheese balls which would be very disappointing if she was a vegetarian. The wings were burnt, burnt flour and the texture was tough. Not been in buttermilk long enough I don’t know but no where near as good as they have been before. My fat hippo burger was decent. Not as saucy as there instagram and Facebook posts so felt a bit dry throughout. The double patty which we were not told would be an extra £5 was good and came plain as requested. Bill was sorted after we explained the mix up. But all in all very disappointing experience. This is my type of food and I cook it everyday at my work. Just needs a bit more work to get it right. Putting 2 onion rings on a burger is good visually but practicallity was pointless. Oh and the purple slaw was very tasteless for what it was. Very lacking in dressing

Opening recently in George street, Fat hippo invites all sizes of human being to taste their burger and fries. We tried their fat Hippo and born Slippy. I think the patty is good and bun is alright but the visual might be different from the advertisement. For the fan of onion ring, you shall go with ‘ Fat hippo menu’ What I was wow (more than burger) is the tater tots which is very nice and fulfilling. The portion is very great so please don’t underestimate it ( it comes with burger and fries as a combo). The staffs mostly are friendly and supportive but the staff at our table seems to have been though a rough day with a boring face and serve us grudgingly. The interior decorations is a mixture of modern and classic vibes. Recommend to try once if visiting Princes & George street.

Fat Hippo is an absolute gem! From the moment you walk in, the quirky, upbeat atmosphere sets the tone for a great time. The staff are super friendly and make you feel welcomed. That incredible chicken Caesar Sando sandwich — perfectly cooked, packed with flavor, and seriously satisfying. The touch of hot honey is phenomenal. The tots are next level too — crispy, golden, and totally addictive. Their cocktail menu is full of fun and creative drinks that pair perfectly with the food. Every bite and sip feels like a well-thought-out flavor adventure. Whether you’re out with friends or just treating yourself, Fat Hippo delivers on every front. Highly recommend!

Couldn’t wait to try Fat Hippo, so chose to visit the edinburgh George St restaurant for a birthday meal tonight. Staff was welcoming, however we waited one whole hour before our food was served and it was not overly busy. We had to chase staff for food order and staff never approached us to update us on food order. Was completely let down by the food. We ordered starters and mains to come out together. My chips were stone cold but I was too hungry to send them back. The chicken in three of our dishes was that over cooked, we could not eat it. My daughter was part way through eating her burger and pulled a sticker out her mouth! Staff checked what this was with kitchen staff and confirmed it was from food packaging!

On that note though out starters we nice and hot, cooked well. We had cheese balls and frickles.

Sadly our experience has put us off returning. Spoke with the manager who was prepared to take my daughters meal off the bill, but I was not happy with this. Manger then decided to not charge us for the whole meal.

Major let down. Needs improvement. Manager was...

As a regular burger joint visitor I was very excited about coming here, specially after reviewing their Instagram page. The food looks mouth watering and fantastic. The restaurant itself is clean and is bigger than most burger joints I've been to. The staff were very friendly and the service was quick. Ordered myself the Fat Hippo burger and some blue cheese ranch wings. The wings were great and the ranch sauce was good. Blue cheese sauce was of substandard but overall these were good. Onto the main. I dont know if I just picked the wrong burger, but it was not upto what I have come to expect (thanks to 7Bone). The burger was heavily over powered by the taste of onion ring batter and grease which isn't very pleasant, so much so I had to remove it completely from the burger. Even then I found the meat to be extremely bland and the sauce to have no flavour to it. Found myself having to squirt ketchup onto it which I'd never normally do. Overall considering I was there for a burger I was very disappointed. Signed,...
