The staff at this branch lack sense and initiative - they are totally gormless.
I have seen just how obsequious Waitrose Shop Assistants are when the late Queen and King Charles have visited one of its branches: bowing and scraping at every turn. I would like just a small fraction of the same attention enjoyed by the monarch when I shop at Waitrose Comely Bank
On Saturday, 18th November, 2025, I could not find any mushrooms displayed in the Fruit and Vegetable Section of the store. I could not find any shelf edge labels where mushrooms would have been displayed if they were available. As there were no Shop Assistants in the Department, I approached the Customer Service Desk. I asked a Shop Assistant walking past on the customer side of the Desk for help and she asked me,
"is it an emergency?"
I responded, 'I have been kept waiting."
I went on to explain about the non-availability of any mushrooms. She instructed a young man wearing a headset to send for a Fruit and Veg Worker. Ten minutes later, no one had bothered to come to help me. I complained to the same woman who replied,
"Has no one come to see you?"
She did not offer to investigate the non-availability of mushrooms herself or bother to walk around the section to see if she could find them. Although, she was pleasant and polite.
I asked to speak to the Branch Manager and was told that she was not at business. I replied,
"I have shopped here for eight years. Whenever I have asked to speak to the Branch Manager, he or she is never available. I am always told to speak to a manager wearing a Waitrose overall. No wonder things never improve."
My money is as good as the monarch's money so why are the Royal Family treated with such ingratiating respect by Waitrose's Managers and Shop Assistants; indulging their every whim.
The Woman who helped me should have taken my details and asked the Branch Manager to contact me.
At the Fish Counter on the same day, I mentioned that this was my second visit to the Branch when I had not been able to buy fishcakes at the counter. I was told that there were fishcakes available on the shop floor. I pointed out that the ones on sale over the counter were of a different quality. The young girl just looked at me. I responded,
"So, what are you going to do about it."
She muttered something about checking tickets out the back and I had to suggest,
"How about, I shall mention this to the Branch Manager and see if we can improve availability."
Waitrose Managers and Shop Assistants pull out the stops for the Royal Family and treat those of us who keep the business ticking over with loyal custom week in and week out contemptuously.
Are these the egalitarian values of the John Lewis...

Wednesday 4th September 2024: I bought a bag of tangerines - all of them were bad - smelled bad, looked like they were too old.
I bought a bag of Jazz apples - three out of four of them were bad - probably way too old. The bad ones tasted awful - had to spit them out. I had to try each apple to avoid waste so lots of spitting out required...
Previous reviews (I don't think Google lets me add multiple reviews):
I bought a jar of Elsinore herring on Wednesday 7th February 2024. I took it home and tried to eat it right away. The second piece of herring tasted like it was gone off - I had to spit it out.
On Thursday 8th February 2024 I bought another jar of Elsinore herring in the hope that the other jar was just a one-off problem. Unfortunately this jar also had herring pieces that tasted like they were gone off - I had to spit them out quickly. I was retching and almost vomiting in my kitchen sink - a top quality Waitrose experience!
Approximately two weeks ago (before 9th February 2024), I had the same problem with a jar of this Elsinore herring. I am writing this review to warn people about the situation in case someone develops food poisoning.
I have given up trying to buy milk and blueberries from this store because of repeated issues with the freshness/quality of the products. The oranges also have frequent freshness problems as if they have been stored for...
Read moreAs a food and beverage delivery rider I arrived at comely bank a bit harrassed and stressed. I already had the customer messaging me that the delivery was already late and they wanted it delivered now. As I have no control of the apps job delegation, and with my phone within the waterproof case on my handlebar, I proceeded to get to waitrose as quickly as I could pedal and as safe as possible. Just as I'm approaching, I look at my phone, 3.1m to destination. Oh no, I'm going to the wrong Waitrose and I have another delivery in my bag. Sprint down to comely bank. Stressed. No staff. Customer has messaged me constantly by this time. After what seemed an age. Colleague arrives. Just come to the desk if no staff. I explained I had gone to the wrong Waitrose and I was getting messages from the customer and I have another stop before I get there. Without hesitation, the amazing Colleague said Would you like a bouquet of flowers for the customer. Amazing gesture and gladly received. Not only did he show understanding for my mishap but knew my customer service was a priority and also his customer, which I didn't know until I dropped off the first order. I'm writing this review because I am very grateful to your colleague and the customer was...
