Food was amazing! Fresh, homemade, authentic! Flavours were top notch, could not fault the food at all! The service was also 10 out of 10! Lovely people, so friendly, very passionate about the place and you could really feel the respect and vibe about Bali Brasserie. We were lucky enough to talk to TC (the owner for 37 years), what a fantastic guy! We asked him why a place with such amazing food wasn't well known in Hove, and he said it was 'Hove's Best Kept Secret'! Which, if you are cooking for 37 years, then you are doing something right. Authentic flavours because TC is so particular about the food, flavour and being homemade. But...don't expect a trendy, modern, aesthetically styled restaurant. The entrance is dated to the apartment block above it. The deco is also like you stepped into a fine Malaysian restaurant 37 years ago. Its a very large, clean, well presented restaurant, fluorescent pink up lighting, and you sit at the bar until your starters are ready. So, the saying 'don't judge a book by its cover' comes into play here. But when you get over that and realise how good the service is and then taste the food, we felt it was up there with the best food we had eaten in Brighton and Hove....
Read moreHad high hopes for the Bali Brasserie but we we're somewhat let down by our experience. We arrived just before 8pm and we were shown to our table. Drinks order taken, and food order given. Drinks arrived. Crackers arrived. No starters. Second round of drinks order taken - incomplete order arrived. Still no food. Was told oven had broken and our food was on its way. Table arranged for what appeared to be an imminent starter arrival - 'it's on its way'. Somewhat annoyed at this point as food was regularly coming out of the kitchen - buffet restocked twice, others had two courses in the time we sat paintiently for our starters. Still nothing arrived. Enquired once more how long we would have to wait, again we're told its on its way. It's now well over an hour since we arrived. We decided to leave, as we had waited too long and given false promises. The owner/manager did try to rectify the poor service - complimentary drinks, offer of a free meal - but by this time my patience had left me and we left never to return. A first in leaving a restaurant because...
Read moreWe went here as a group following good reviews about the food. The waiters and servers staff were excellent. The food was good once the order was corrected. Please be aware if you ask for your meal spicy, it is not warmer than a korma. The manager was awful, inattentive, unapologetic and rude.
We were seated at 19.30, our drinks and order taken, then we proceed to wait for 2 hours until our starters arrived. This was dismissed by the manager who thought it acceptable to blame the kitchen. Unfortunately giving an excuse passing the buck isn't just to the other fantastic staff who were more than apologetic. If the restaurant is not able to run efficiently at 75% capacity then the running needs to be addressed.
I understand in the current situation that times are difficult, but this is no excuse for the service we received from the manager. If we were told that we would be waiting over 2 hours for a starter then we would have left and gone to another...
