Saw some glowing online reviews of this establishment. Had been named as one of the best fish and chips shops in Lancashire so decided to give it a visit. Managed to find a space right outside on the road. Please note many of the streets around here are resident permit parking only. Seriously doubt you would get a space like we did in the summer months. However, there are a number of pay and display car parks close by for when it’s busy. We were there just after noon on a very wet November day and Blackpool looked very quiet. There is a ramp up into the shop providing wheel chair access. Place was a lot bigger inside than it initially looked with a number of tables and I would reckon seating inside for at least 30 or more people. That’s just an estimate, I didn’t actually count the number of chairs. Plus seating outside for the warmer months. You made your choice, took your table number to the counter and placed your order. Not the most extensive menu. Standard fare for a traditional fish and chip shop. Initially a little surprised to see no desserts on the dine in menu. We went with the large fish and chips, small peas and curry sauce and a medium fish and chips, bread and butter, one coffee and a bottle of water. Didn’t take long before our order was cooked and brought to our table. It was piping hot. Have to say I thought the chips were excellent. Proper full chips, freshly cooked with very few bits. Fish was good. The large was a big portion. I liked the peas but the curry sauce wasn’t for me. Wasn’t keen on it but that’s just my personal preference. Bread and butter also good and fresh and didn’t feel or taste like it had been sat around for hours waiting to be served up. Salt, pepper and vinegar in proper containers on each table with tomato and brown sauce as well. Not the fiddly little individual packets that some places unfortunately insist on using these days. Based on taste and size of portions felt it was reasonable value for money. And probably one reason why they have no dessert menu as we would not have had room for any more. The place looked very clean and tidy. The staff working behind the counter also looked smart in clean white tunics. My brother used the toilet. They had 2. One appeared to be disabled friendly and a sign posted to say it had changing facilities for babies. He said the one he used was also very clean. The food was good but not anything we have not enjoyed before. The service wasn’t the friendliest. My brother who took our order to the till felt the guy who took it was a little abrupt but then again it’s not a five star restaurant is it. So although there was nothing wrong with our meal maybe we were expecting a little bit more having seen the online reviews. Was worth checking out but due to distance from where we live, it’s over an hours drive, it’s unlikely we will be...
Read moreWe traveled from Edinburgh and looked for a highly recommended chippy on Google and came across this one . We walked from the main area which took roughly 30 mins and arrived at 6pm. The cafe is clean and has a good amount of seating and tables, also some out side. And two customer toilets, clean. I ordered at the counter and the food was brought out to us within 15 mins. The children went for the kids fish and chips, which includes a small side of baked beans and a fruit shot for £6.50. I went with the small fish and chips £7, husband decided to have the medium fish at £7 and add 2 potato scallops at 50p each. The fish was fresh and had a nice big flake texture. The batter was thin and light. But it was let down with the underside being soggy. Not sure what caused this, perhaps not allowing it to rest before plating it up? Found there wasn't a huge difference in my small fish and my husband medium fish. The portions were generous. Chips lightly fried and soft, not greasy. It was good that the tables had vinegar, ketchup , brown sauce, and sachets of mayo and tartar sauce. Overall a pleasant experience here. The menu is same price for sitting in...
