We weâre definitely not planning on coming here, not our kind of restaurant but it ended up chucking it down with rain and this is the only place we could get in. We also didnât have much hope because the menu was sooo cheap. But oh my goodness it was a fun and enjoyable lunch. Very busy inside felt loud and like a canteen but thankfully we were out in a smaller part of the restaurant in the back. The service was very quick and there were plenty of waiters about. I ordered the Parma ham and melon starter with chargrilled broccoli. Yum except the broccoli was more like just boiled. My friend ordered the margherita , lovely pizza just the dough is very heavy. My other friend order the sharing platter for two which came with some lovely pizza bread (for himself but I can imagine itâs a good size to share). And finally my other friend order prawn and avocado. Simple but good. An unexpected lunch but the food was lovely and the prices were great. The manager is also very friendly .

I stopped for a quick lunch at Donatello with some friends when visiting Brighton. The Italian restaurant is a well-oiled machine, and although itâs a big restaurant, they are friendly and efficient with their service. They offer a set menu alongside a wide variety of pizzas, pastas and Italian main courses. The food is very reasonably priced for the quality and quantity - I couldnât quite believe the size of my friends pasta dish when it arrive! I really enjoyed the food I had, including a tomato, avocado and burrata salad, and a calzone pizza stuffed full of ham, mushrooms and mozzarella. Everything was well seasoned and flavoursome, and the portion was very generous. Overall, I had a great first visit to Donatello Brighton, and I would certainly return in the future. Itâs great value and clearly very popular with tourists and locals alike.

Donatello is okay. We came here as a large group (50 people) so our experience will be different. The set supreme Xmas menu was alright but not a very exciting choice. The food was quite simple in honesty. Very simple starters and mains also were just meat with tons of sauce on it. Calamariâs was definitely the frozen processed industrial kind. Prawn salad was nice but badly presented. Meats seemed cheap and just slathered in over salted sauce. Felt like local grandma cafe home style cooking sort of thing. Rather than Italian fine dining for a party. The desserts were nice but equally simple. Portions were generous though I will give them that. And the little potatoes were nice. The service however was not really sufficient for such a big group. They only assigned two servers for our area so it took ages for drinks and also all our food all came out at different times. Some had finished the meal whilst others were only just served the main course. This is a very large restaurant which caters large groups, it therefore makes sense for kitchen is likely more industrial and the food is more canteen style. If you eat here you will know what I mean. Food also seemed more German/alpine winter food compared to light Italian cuisine. Probably wouldnât recommend this place. Itâs okay but nothing special. At least itâs fairly cheap for ÂŁ25 set menu, but it would be good to include a drink.

Came here for an early lunch with my partner. Despite opening at 11:30am there were still people there before us as we turned up at exactly that time. We chose to sit outside as it was a lovely day and the seating area is surrounded by nice plants. Combined with the warm weather this made us feel like we were abroad! For starters we both had the garlic mushrooms, highly recommend this dish as it was the perfect amount of mushrooms and a very well balanced dish. The main I had was carbonara, the sauce was excellent and the meal filled me up completely. Considering two courses is just over ÂŁ10 it's incredible value for money! After the meal we visited my partner's family who knew of Donatello and said it's a Brighton institution, so it's well known and does excellent food for a good price!

I really love the food. Very reasonable prices, good quantity and quality of food. The ambience of the restaurant was really nice with some indoor plants which makes it warm and cozy. But the place I donât know for some reason itâs really cold when we visited so it felt a bit uncomfortable. The service was quick and good. Staff are polite. Everythingâs pretty good except for the fact they do charge service charge and donât know why a person is asked to pay when it donât go to the staff but the restaurant itself. It would be better to tip the staff for their generous service than paying to the restaurant for god knows what. Also the service charge is bit too much to pay for a meal. Bit annoyed still I enjoyed the food. Hope they will remove the service charge though.

Avoid if youâre Italian or looking for good Italian food Living for several years in London, when I dare to try a ânewâ Italian restaurant I do my checks and Donatello seemed ok. Unfortunately when I started eating I understood that I was in another below average Italian cooking restaurant. Maybe they try to please the local taste? Maybe they donât have proper Italian personnel, actually capable of cooking in a REAL Italian style? By the way the Tiramisu is not with mascarpone but with cream, that is not Italian. I donât know, but if you show not one but TWO ITALIAN FLAGS đŽđš I want to eat something that makes me proud as an Italian!!! Unfortunately this is not the case. Avoid if you are Italian or are looking for good Italian cuisine.
