This place is hard to describe 🤣. We stayed there two days and we only saw a cleaner, no reception desk, no security... It looks like it's quite common in UK to pay an extra fee for an early check-in, so we had to wait until 15:00 for an email with the instructions to access our room, we got a pin code for the main door and an extra code for the box where the room key was stored. The cleaner only cleaned the rooms that checked out that day, so our room was never cleaned, that includes no new towels, an so on. The shower head bracket was broken and the shower was next to the bed, so you had to watch out for closing the door properly, otherwise, it would be a complete mess. The building is not well maintained in general, that includes the rooms. The window in our room did not close well, the doors of the wardrobe either... as I said, this building needs a lot of maintenance, but meanwhile people keep booking this place... Finally, we had to leave our room at the exact time, otherwise we would be charged with an extra fee as well, and once again, we had to put the keys in the same place we took it. PS: everything here has an extra fee, that includes the luggage storage, 15£.

I was really impressed with Kipps. The staff were really friendly and helpful, going to the lengths of pointing out light switches and alternative bathrooms just in case I needed them. They even gave me a number to call in case I needed help while I was out and about in Brighton. There’s a bar area, lounge with tv, outside smoking terrace, computer room and kitchen. The 4th floor single room was a good size and clean with a really comfy bed. The heating was on all night and adjustable at the radiator with extra blankets and an electric fan in the wardrobe in case they were needed. Also had a hairdryer and tea/coffee making facilities in the room, full length mirror and plenty of sockets. They really had everything covered and I’d definitely stay again.

Booked Private en-suite, and had a late checked in around mid night. Just after 15 minute or so, I felt leakage from the ceiling, and water was dropping right on the left fat side of the bed (coming from toilet or bath upstairs around 0130 hours). Went down to complaint, and young guy working at reception was so friendly, and helpful, he gave me other room (twin) with shared toilet. And apologised me for many a times. He assured me that tomorrow, I will get double bed and refund of deference of two rooms. It was his customer service skill, I did not changed the hostel. Bed are so small that, I fell twice during night. In morning, I went down for breakfast, and approached a lady on the counter and explained her every thing. She was so rude and unfriendly, I cant explain. She even never bothered to say sorry, and told me rudely that my 1st allotted room will be checked and repaired and my luggage will be moved. So another hassle of packing luggage second time in 1st 24 hours. When I asked about the refund, she replied with so sarcastically that difference is just couple of Pounds, so little a money, which was actually a £5. I had a break fast and went away to University. Came back at night around 1900 hrs, and friendly girl at counter told me that all sorted, and refunded me the £5. Again at night around 0300 hours, leakage started, and water started dropping on to my feet, but I was so tired, and hotel was fully booked, so I placed a bin to collect the water in it. And slept on ground. But due to dropping water noise, could not sleep well. Again in morning, I went down, and told the counter lady, that there is leakage again. She again in rudely many replied, that they checked every thing and all was okey. I said, you can go and check now and see the bin I placed there.. she again never bothered to check the room, and kept doing her own job. No sorry and apology this time either. So I told her, as I cant stay in room due to leakage, I am packing and want to leave luggage in hostel which I collect after 2-3 hours (I was to check out at 11, but went out at 0900 hrs). Spent rest of time of beach, came back and asked her for the luggage, she handed that me in, and never, even ready to say bye etc.... I left the hostel never to return to same again. Other than this, there are quite a less number of toilets with so thin walls, and even in lobby there was queue of 6 people when I needed to go. And for breakfast, some time, you have to wait, for a space to get vacant. Lobby is so small and crowded that even incoming guests were being asked to leave luggage in store and come back later. Over all terrible, and...

On packing my bags in the morning the morning I was checking out, I was not able to leave my room at the designated 11:00 A.M. checkout time because I was not able to leave my room due to a fault with the door used to enter and exit my room. I tried budging the lock for around half an hour and had no success in doing so. Trying every method possible. As to my knowledge, there were no staff on-site, I called the staff member who in-person text-messaged me the combinations to get into the building and my room respectively. The phone rang but went to voicemail and on hanging up received a text-message from his number saying to not call his number as it is one of a personal nature and queries regarding the rooms should be sent via the e-mail of the provider of the rooms or by calling an different number provided.

I called the different number provided and was expecting to speak to a member of staff but was forwarded to a locksmith and explained to him the situation. By this point, I was very stressed and overwhelmed; not only was I worried about having to pay a late checkout fee but also my safety and not making the train I needed to get to travel home.

Within half-an-hour, the gentleman arrived to try and let me out of the room from the outside and had no success. He even asked me to slide the original room key under the door and tried that and had no luck with that either. He then returned to the key to me and then asked if he could search for a spare key, I agreed to him doing his and around fifteen or so minutes later, he obtained one and was able to let me out my room. He proceeded to ask for identification, so I allowed him to take a photograph on his phone of my provisional driving licence, and was then able to go about my journey home and him to go back to his office. Luckily, I was not asked to pay for this service.

Oh, and do not bother trying to complain via phone or e-mail, nobody bothers to take the...

After finding I had to come down to Brighton at very short notice for a job transfer, I was initially quite concerned about finding somewhere nice and reasonable to be able to stay for a couple of weeks. After comparing different hostels in Brighton, I ultimately settled on Kipps because of the reviews of other guests, and I have to say I could not be gladder of what I chose. All of the staff are polite, friendly, and more than willing to help with anything they can. The environment and atmosphere are relaxed and comfortable, but secure, with more than enough amenities to satisfy on a quiet day. The place seems to attract the nicest guests, and I have met people during my short stay here that I truly would love to keep in contact with. The beds in the dorms are more than enough, with enough storage space, shelves, and sockets to let you set the area out as you like. The bathrooms are always clean from my experience and the facilities all work well. The staff do a good job at making sure the entire place stays clean and respectable. The location is excellent, being a very short walk from most things you'd want to do in Brighton, whether that is a trip to the many shopping areas, a walk along the seafront or any of the parks in the city, or a journey to one or more of the great many bars, pubs, and eateries in the area. The only actual issue I could think up about this place is that the towel rail in the first-floor bathroom is broken. That is all! I feel ridiculous rating this place so highly with so few faults, but I am just being honest as to how I see it; I would recommend this place to anybody looking to stay in the area in a heartbeat, and I can only hope I find an excuse...
