I happened upon the Pav Tav while returning to my hotel on my first visit to Brighton. I immediately liked the roomy layout and decor, and the friendliness of the staff impressed me, as did the EXTREMELY reasonable - read, cheap - drink prices. Lots of beers on tap, and all kinds of mixed drinks being served up by the bartenders. I asked if it'd be possible to put an American college football game on the TV and the manager kindly agreed to do so. He then split the broadcast between the two sets of TVs, so other patrons could continue to watch what they had been in the various discrete sections of the pub, which made for a nice mix of togetherness with just enough privacy for comfort. Those other patrons were a uniformly friendly and courteous lot, mostly upper 20- and 30-somethings, several of whom chatted me up and one group of which, helping a friend celebrate his 40th birthday, invited me to have a celebratory shot of tequila. That warmed my 66 year-old heart, and I gladly joined in the festivities. I also saw a couple of other folks similar to my age, and they all looked like they were having a good time. This really was one of the friendliest bars I'd been to since my college and Yuppie days, and I strongly recommend it to anyone looking for an enjoyable night out...
Read moreMust admit I'm fairly disappointed. It wasn't the worst food I've ever eaten but it certainly wasn't the best either. We ordered separately and my friend got their food for the meal deal price even tho it was after 6pm and I didn't. I'm adding a picture showing the description of our meals so you can see what we thought we'd get, here's what we actually got. Our food looked good, but have little to no flavour. The seasoned chips didn't even have a lick of salt on them, I got only a tiny smidge of tartare sauce and the smallest lemon wedge I've ever seen. The fish was very well prepared and the garden peas were okay. The quesadilla was flavorless at best. It was dry, had no sauce whatsoever and we didn't get any of the sauces advertised in the menu. When we skaed for them we were told they were out, which is fair enough but they should've told us when ordering. None of the described flavours were present in the quesadilla and at least we should've been able to taste spring onions? The vibe of the place is great. Beautiful and well kept. Their lemonade was really good. Prices are very low, thankfully, since we weren't happy...
Read moreGutted with our experience tonight. We've come here a few times since the rebrand and the food has always been top notch, but this time it was stone cold and half the portion size they've served before. Understandably it was busy as its Saturday, but that doesn't excuse cold food, especially seeing as we were one of the only 2 tables ordering food at 7pm. The mushrooms and cauli bites were cold and greasy, tasted like they'd been left on the side for ages. The beef tacos were cold, and the taco wraps had been sitting out so long they'd gone rock hard, the halloumi chorizo skewers were a tiny portion and so cold they felt like they'd come straight out the fridge. We complained immediately that it was cold and the staff agreed, but as the food took so long and we were going to a show, we didn't have time to wait for a refire so we had to take a drink each as compensation. Really not good enough it should have been a full refund. Such a shame as the food was...
