S and M cannot mean what one might imagine(Marquis de Sade eat your heart out !) nor can it signify the first names of the lovely owners, also waiter/Maitre D' and Chef! No, it can only be Superlative and Magnificent (Not Maleficent!) Superlative in the sense that you could use any one of them to describe the venue and the food! So......the most delicious, most luxurious, the tastiest, as applied to the food. The cosiest little restaurant houses the most interesting nay strangest items, in one sense, including our special pal who tends&guards the sweetest and most gorgeous little, black sheep 🐑 ! We were greeted warmly by Mr S aka Mr Pink (Reservoir Dogs reference!) who took us to our wee table in the corner, nice and serene, indeed the quietest area of the loveliest Asian food venue in town, even North Yorkshire ! It all felt very easy and most comfortable, with the most incredible art work and artefacts around the darkened rooms! The menu is super interesting and different, carefully thought out. I've never eaten such fantastic Gujerati dishes, not even in Leicester or Gujerat, Indian!! It was the tastiest meal I've had in years; worth noting that my friend and I consider ourselves, possibly pretentiously(?!), to be 'foodies'! Whatever the case, we both adored the Fish Pakora, the Puffs, the wonderful(est!) Chaat ever, as well as the Paneer Rolls. The dips for three of these dishes were each the yummiest. Our waiter and waitress were both very sweet, professional and efficient, as well as being knowledgeable about the food on offer. I'd have loved one of the enticing desserts, but we were too full and in any event, it would've been too late, given that Haus of S and M(Eat Me Café) needs to close at 21hs for legal reasons&because of concern for other residents of the building. We were advised by the sharply funny, witty and charming Martin(Chef and maker of the outrageously delicious Puffs! that I could have eaten all night, but might have become 'puffed' myself!) to check out the loo upstairs! Your wish was our command, oh Master Chef! In the loo we tried on various 'saucy' outfits and wigs, taking pics 📸 on the mobile as we changed image. Photos will follow!!(They need to be looked over! 😉 1st!) Our cocktails 🍸, mine a Pimms Cup special and my friend's one a Blackberry with various flavours and 'ting' on the end of the description! The cocktails perfectly matched the best dinner, all round, that we have eaten in ages! What an evening! I can't wait to be there again, as well as to see Jamie and Andrew perform in 'cabaret' or similar, doubtless with utterly panache!! Thanks so much guys, and waiting staff, for a 'Superlative Evening ' all round. Keep on cooking, or is that "Carry on Cheffing'?!!! All the best in the most amazing of 👏 eateries in Scarborough! Read more@Haus – The best food in Scarborough? It's hiding in plain sight on Hanover Road.
Tucked into the old Eat Me Café, @Haus feels like a delicious fusion between a speakeasy cocktail bar, a swinging 60s Soho hangout, and your new favourite dining club. It's intimate, laid-back, and just feels cool — like you’ve stumbled on somewhere you shouldn’t tell everyone about … but you kind of want to.
We kicked things off with the White Sangrias — ice-cold and ridiculously refreshing on a warm summer night — and then we got stuck into the kind of food that makes you stop mid-bite and say “oh my god”.
The Divine Miss Divya is putting Gujarati food on the Scarborough map — the Samosa Chaat is already a legend in our house, and the Biryani? A fella at the next table said he always orders biryani whenever he eats out and this was the best he’s ever had.
Martyn (of Eat Me fame) is back in the kitchen too, with some cracking East Asian dishes — the Broccoli & Cashew Nut with kimchi crumb was fabulous, and the tofu skewers with that iconic EMC satay sauce? So good. We also had the Japanese Fried Rice — an umami dream!
The menu’s always changing, but you’re definitely not going to be disappointed with what’s on offer.
Whether you’re with a gang sharing plates tapas-style, or on a date night like us, it’s the kind of place where you feel totally looked after. As vegetarians, we had loads of choice — most of the meaty dishes had a veggie version.
It’s clearly a menu made with love and proper flavour.

Read moreVery disappointing to be honest, service took a while to be seen to but to the person servings credit he seemed to be working hard on their own. The food just felt like a large plate of rice with hardly anything to it but the small amount of chicken was flavourful, maybe it was my error on choosing that dish? It would have been nice to been recommended or advised on items upon ordering. It seemed the service provided to others there was of a higher standard to the one provided to us. Seems overhyped or maybe we were just unlucky with this experience which is disappointing as we was so excited to try...
