Whoever would have thought that a YMCA would include a theatre? Well Scarborough's does and a jolly nice little venue it is too. During my week in the town, I noticed that a new musical was being premiered at this theatre and, at only £10 for a ticket, it was an absolute bargain. In 'A Nightingale sang', local musician Chris Metcalfe has effectively written a tribute to his late wife, Lynn Nightingale. Lighting and set design was strong; sound balance was at times wayward, but all in all, this was a very enjoyable production at a small theatre which I can only...
Read moreWent to watch Shrek the musical (04/08). The effort they went to with the costumes and settings were amazing. Acting and singing was really good, it was obvious a lot of effort had gone into the performance. If they weren't shouting and whooping then they would be running up and down the isle to the sound and lighting box or cracking open their cans of beer. It was clear when seeing them at the interval they already had a skinful but unfortunately there were no stewards around to tell them to wind it in a bit. Other than the idiots it was a great show,...
Read moreWhat an absolute shocking performance, its an insult to Queen & Freddie Mercury !! He couldn't sing at all & there was NO attempt to look like freddie or dress like him let alone sound like him.he was chubby with greasy, slicked back long hair, ugh. there was a woman guitarist as John Deacon, what was that about.. We walked out after 15 minutes as we were disgusted & embarrassed to sit there & witness that rubbish.the rest of the audience must be blind & deaf to think it was a good performance.i demanded a refund of my ticket money,as a nice night out with my husband who is a devoted Queen/Freddie fan was upsetting.yes it was a tribute band & i wasn't expecting much, but I've heard better...
