We have been going to Paignton for many years and have visited The Inn on the Green many times for both food and drinks. Having just arrived home I felt I need to provide this feedback. A party of 4 visited for food 3 times last week and found the first two visits very good. However, I must give the following feedback for our experience overall and in particular the visit referred to above.
the whole building seems to have been allowed to fall into disrepair over the past few years the majority of the exterior wood is rotting away the outside seating area is very shabby with uneven and broken concrete and poorly maintained furniture the visit on Thursday 5 September was the worst we have experienced lack of availability of various items on the menu no prawn cocktail due to no Marie Rose sauce. Just ordered plain prawns but when food was delivered were told there were no prawns after all. one of the party ordered Thai veg curry with prawns and these came with no problem. However, the curry was extremely hot and hotter than the two chilliās advertised. It was more the strength of a madras equivalent and also very very watery. another member ordered the chicken tikka masala. This arrived minus the advertised mango chutney only to be told sorry no mango chutney. The poppadom was not as crispy as it should be. BBQ cauliflower wings ordered as a starter came without any dipping sauce and only when asked was informed that there was no salsa! gin a tonic ordered and no proper gin glasses so had to have it in a tumbler there was a lack of cleanliness with numerous tables not being cleared of dirty plates. At least 8 tables around us (table 7) remained uncleared throughout the period of our visit with new customers moving plates etc onto other tables so they could sit down.
I have to say that the few members of staff did their very best but were run ragged!
The lack of upkeep and lack of availability of the items seems to indicate that this particular location is being run down by the brewery in anticipation of closing it which would be a great shame as it has been part of Paigntonās seafront for...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreFurious! Ok, it's Aug Bank Hol and we were told it was going to be around 30 to 40 mins wait, so I get it when it really was a wait. Considering there were numerous tables empty with reserved notices on them, I was a but confused as to why it was apparently so overwhelmingly busy for them it took over an hour to bring some bbq chicken wings and some onion rings for starters. Another 30 mins and I go looking for someone to ask how much longer it will be. Was told it would be another 20 mins now they knew we had finished our starter. No one came out to check and no one re visited to ask if it was all ok. 30 mins later and still no sign. I go back in and ask the same guy to re check and to inform him we've waited so long, it's gotten too cold to sit outside so we had moved tables. Not happy I then set about asking one of the other staff members to go into the kitchen and find out what time we walked in and ordered by looking at our original table number as i was not offered a receipt when i paid. He returned with a kitchen staff member to say it is literally on it's way. When it arrived it was not even edible. The burgers were burnt almost to the centre, there were some kind of cheese filled things in the burger that were cremated & tasted burnt and I'm not even sure what the other stuff was. It was inedible. I has to complain which I'm not normally the one to do in restaurants, I normally just get on with it but I just couldn't. I was not going to eat that. We should've demanded a refund but I was simply given the money back for my food as I was not prepared to wait even longer for a different meal.. So I sat there & watched my family eat & i went without. Needless to say, i wont be returning. Looked like most people were happy with their meals so i guess we just had a bad experience. The most annoying thing, we watched many people turn uo after us and get served food before us. Some even finished and left....
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis is a long review so please bear with me.
This is a basic pub nothing special, the food is decent but the service is terrible. The only reason we are repeat customers is the fact its dog friendly and we are currently on holiday with 2 spaniels.
Monday early afternoon we went to book a table FOR THE WEEK at 6pm. We turn up on Monday 6pm for our first meal and that went without a hitch. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday we had no reservation, for our specific table we had wanted for the metal railings to attach our dog. Each time we went we basically picked a seat at random in the dog friendly zones. Tuesday or Wednesday we were given a table they said someone would come along to clean, no one came and cleaned it. Eating our meals on the filthy table with old plates and salt debris all over the table. One dog meal we specifically had ordered was one with gravy and one dog meal without only to find they both had gravy in which one of our spaniels cannot manage with and ended up with the runs as we hadn't seen the gravy at the bottom of the small bowl.
Food was average pub food but not once did anyone come back and ask if the food was alright.
All these positive things we expected from this particular pub as this was a staple in our holiday the previous year recommending it to everyone who asked where we ate has now gone.
Avoid if possible and if you have a dog with you, I'd now advise you to just go to the pier and get a chippy from one of the stalls, or head to The Harbour Inn as we were told this is dog friendly too. Shame we found out about the other place to eat on the last day after we got back to the hotel from our last meal. Just look 9 months ago to a review from Jess Smith who is now recently my wife on our last trip to you.
Would also love to hear a response on this review from Inn On The Green stating why the service has gone...
