Jorvik Spice — Restaurant in England

Traveling for work I have been to several restaurants around York, as my profile shall show. I can say hands down this restaurant is the best I’ve been to. I’m of Bengali ethnicity and the waiters are so keen to talk Bengali with me. Usually the problem with curry houses like these is there’s always too much oil in the dish. The first night I ordered Nawabi Khanna, which was sublime. The reason I rate the restaurant a 4/5 is the oil content prevented me from having a good quality sleep.

I returned there a few days later and the waiter recognized me. I’ve been following the waiter’s recommendations for what to eat as I always order the same dish. I had the chicken and mince dish, the staff curry and then the Naga lamb curry. All fantastic choices, I highly recommend them.

Do not be afraid to request less oil in your dish as this makes the taste even better. The waiters will be fine with this!

Food confirmed to be delivered between 20:30 - 20:50 Kept waiting then received a phone call from restaurant owner at 22:00, He asked if I could come pick up my order as it has been sat on the side for an hour and half waiting for a driver to turn up. I told him that's not acceptable and if he remade it I would come pick it up. He said it's fine and doesn't need to be remade... Personally I'd prefer it fresh but I settled with asking for fresh chips and naan bread, as let's be honest they're normally soggy normally. He said "NO that will cost me £10 to make you fresh chips and a naan". Couldn't believe he wouldn't meet me half way on anything... Owner was extremely rude and said he didn't care as he's already been paid for the order. Needless to say after waiting over 2 hours I requested a full refund and will NEVER order...

This meal blew mine and my husbands minds. As frequent Indian food consumers and big travelers, we are always on the hunt for the best in town. This one, I must say, has taken the prize for best in all of our travels thus far. My husband enjoyed the sizzle mix for one as an appetizer and I enjoyed the mushroom pakoras — they were lovely and a perfect teaser for what was to come. For mains, we went with the Chef Specials: fish masala (ordered hot) and the lamb shanks — we were both mesmerized by the flavors and presentation. Cooked and spiced to perfection — leaving no room for criticism. If I could have dreamt up the most perfectly made to order Indian food, this one would still have been better. I have invited many people to join me in a trip to York just to have this deliciousness again....
