Valentinos — Restaurant in England

Please note this is the ONLY bad review of all my contributions on Google. On arrival we were greeted by the big smiley guy with his hair tied up at the back who we soon found out does a bit of one line opera type singing in between serving and shown to a table. Our server was a different waiter called Carlo. My wife ordered Ribs Modo Nostrum which looked ok when swerved but turned out to be tough, dry and steeped in a watery tomato based sauce. Carlo returned to check if everything was OK, noted my wife had left the ribs and asked what was wrong with the dish. My wife explained the problem, told him not to worry about it, and as far as we were concerned the issue was over. Carlo was adamant that he should let the chef know so we left it at that. Carlo then returned with our main course Ravioli dishes. Word must have spread around the kitchen at my wife's disapproval of the food as suddenly, the big guy appears from nowhere and takes an interest in serving us with the Parmesan cheese topping for the Ravioli (why wasn't our server allowed to do this?). He then dumped 2 full soupspoons of grated Parmesan on her meal and 3 on mine after i had clearly held my hand up to say No More after the first spoonful (very petty don't you think?) making the dishes inedible. The moral of the story is : Dont criticise the food because the Singing Waiter WILL f__k up your meal. I take no joy in writing this review. Really disappointing evening considering the service here is usually exceptional. I've never had an Italian meal before and had to get a takeaway on the way home. The waiters/waitresses didn't even ask how the food was after each course/the meal. This was the complete opposite of how it has been in the past. I was told to have my steak medium by the waitress. The t-bone was overcooked and rubbery and had zero fillet steak on it. Perhaps the chef took it off and had it for himself. The rest of the steak was tough, covered in inedible fat and sinew. I wouldn't have fed it to the dog. The potatoes and veg were sad and unappealing. I told the waiter very quietly without causing a scene that the steak was not good enough. He said he would tell the chef but nothing was done about it. No apology, no discount, no offer of something else to eat. The bill came without any apology or explanation. The saving grace was the calamari, and has spared this a 1* review. STAY CLEAR - food came really quick which was good, my sister took a bite in the chicken and it was red, asked for it to be redone and all they did was argue, saying it wasn’t under cooked it was a vein!! Asked for us to order something else, ordered the lasagna and this came bubbling which was good but when she took a bite and showed us it, it was like mush. Didn’t say anything as no one asked if there was a problem so we presumed they were aware. The manager/owner only shows up at the end for the deserts. When the waiter came for the bill we explained that as the lasagna could not be eaten as it was over cooked we believed it should not be on the bill. All you could see was the waiter explained this to the manager and the manager angry waiving his arms. He then approached us saying that all “she” did was complain and we never get complaints. We held our ground and this was taken off the bill. NEVER AGAIN. Complete embarrassment, you should be ashamed & shout out to the dark hair lady with her husband and child...
