Our visit to Pizza Express yesterday was quite disappointing from the start. The waitress was acting strange, almost glaring at us, and seemed to be lurking around in an unsettling way. We sat at a large table meant for seven people, with our kids, and even though we each placed our orders separately, the waitress still combined our bills despite our requests to have them split. To make matters worse, we found out that one of the four kids had to pay the full price for their meal, even though the "Kids Eat for £1 during summer holidays" promotion was supposed to apply. I specifically asked the waitress if the promotion was valid, and she confirmed it, but later the manager told us that if we had sat at separate tables, they would have split the bills. Ridiculous. There was no apology, nothing. Apparently, if you come with friends, you have to sit separately if you want to pay individually.
The service was terrible, and the company’s policy is just as bad. Because they combined our bills, we ended up paying full price for one child despite the holiday promotion, and no one informed us about this beforehand. They made the decision for us about whether the promotion would apply, which was completely thoughtless. Then, we had to sit and figure out who owed what to whom—absolutely awful. In any normal restaurant, splitting the bill is never an issue. I do not recommend this place at all.
To add to the frustration, the waitress, knowing we were with kids, made us wait 40 minutes before serving the main courses because the kids were eating starters. With kids, sometimes they eat this, sometimes that—it’s unpredictable. The table was huge, and everything would have fit. Utterly...
Read moreI’d like to start this review by saying I love pizza express, enough to be a gold club member. I’ve always enjoyed the customer service and food provided at all their establishments. But tonight I had an experience that will deter me from all pizza express’ for a while and this one in hull for the rest of my life. Me and my partner had ordered a fair bit of food, knowing that we’d be able to claim a lot of it back on the app as we were both gold members. When it came to adding the rewards on, my app displayed the error “cannot use this reward as it has already been used today” this was incorrect, my partners app let him add all of his. So I approached a female member of staff and explained the situation and she was more than happy to help and set to manually discounting all the items I had rewards for that I showed her on my phone. Then a male member of staff approached and abruptly asked her to remove all the rewards, then he said he could he could see there was already a set of rewards on the screen. I explained that me and my partner were both gold members (as even I could see this seemed like we were just trying to get a bunch of stuff for free) but he didn’t seem to believe me so I showed him that we were both logged into the table and he could see we were both gold members. He then told me I needed to log into the table and add my own rewards myself, so I explained the error again and he just replied with “oh, well there’s nothing we can do about it then” when I questioned it further he just repeated “If the app says that, there’s nothing we can do”. This undermined his co-workers ability to do her job and that annoyed me more than paying £20.00 more than I should...
Read moreLast night myself, my husband and our 2 children ate within the restaurant and found the food to be lovely despite the service slow however had a bad experience when leaving paying for our bill of £33 something with £40 in notes, the manager Sarah asked my husband upon taking the bill receipt and cash "would you be needing some change?" Err I couldn't believe my ears. That's £7 change which belongs to us, and for that question to be even considered is appalling coming from any member of staff never mind the manager. I am disgusted. After that I also requested my sons dessert to be a take out as my daughter was getting a little restless as nearer her bedtime, the dessert being a babycino. "what dessert?" was the managers reply. The dessert included in my sons 3 course meal, he would like a babycino to go please, I replied. "oh yes I'll get that sorted for you" Sarah said. I awaited the drink to arrive to be told we've ran out of take out cups so I've brought you a brownie instead. Unfortunately my son doesn't eat brownie and was set on a babycino, so I asked for some compensation if my request couldn't be gifted. In which I was replied with "I'll go try and find you a cup" I waited and then she brought out a take away "sauce pot" 2-3cm in size with the froth of milk inside! No liquid. I was mortified, I said "are you really giving me that as a babycino?" "yes it's only frothy milk we give anyways" her reply was. That's a lie I told her as this wasn't our first time eating at Pizza Express and my son had had the babycino many times before. That shocked I just said "right OK" and left. Appalling. I will be writing to head office about my...
