Nov 2022. Went for a comic con event (£9 each to enter). Easy parking next door in multi storey car park. £3 for a full day. We were metal scanned on the way in and bags searched. We had to pour dilute orange juice out of our bottle because we were not allowed to take liquids in. Bought a bottle of water just inside and we were not allowed to have the bottle top! Over £6 for a hot dog and a bottle of water. Later, asked for a carton of chips, but was told they didn't have any. Ironically there was one just behind him on the shelf where ordered stuff is passed through from the kitchens. When we asked why we couldn't buy that one he said they weren't allowed to. Next minute or two followed a strange conversation between his colleagues when they decided they could sell it to us! Over £3 for a carton of about 26 chips. We eventually ended up filling our empty bottle (with no bottle top remember?) up with water out of the toilet taps. We had brought food and water with us but had left them in the car. And they had a policy of no readmittance once left. All in all, as very strange experience. I am sure there are good reasons for all of the above, but can't help feeling it was all aimed at the unwary public being persuaded to buy from the expensive food desk. Interestingly, the car park machines only accepted cash but the food place inside only accepted card payments. We had travelled a long way to get there at big expense and were then forced to buy food and water because we weren't allowed to take it in. We certainly had a laugh at the fact that we paid expensive prices for a bottle of water (including the bottle and cap, obviously!), but the cap was removed and taken off us before we were given it!!! Legally it's ours...lol! On a more positive note, the comic con event was very good. Staff were doing their job very well. I was a student at Hull University back in the day, so it was interesting to return decades later to see the developments that had taken place. But that's another story. Has Hull become one of the cities where alcohol is such a concern at these venues that any liquid is not allowed??? A family orientated comic con event? It's comforting to know that safety is no doubt the main reason behind all the restrictions, but did it go too far? There were many people hanging around the food area (just where we entered in after the bag search) who were eating it just standing around. No tables or chairs anywhere. My Wife sat on the floor by the doors to drink her water and put her hand down on the panelling below the window panes and punctured her skin via a nail or tack sticking up through it. Few tissues later of blood mopping and crisis over. There were no food choices for anyone needing a special diet, and certainly not allowed to take any in. We didn't see any mention of this prior to going in or in and promotion of the event. But our son, on his 20th birthday, enjoyed it. Oblivious to all that was going on. We watched a young lady trying to leave at about 2pm. Thesecurity guard asked to see her ticket to "scan her out". But apparently her friend had already left who had the tickets on their phone. So she wasn't allowed out. She was obviously scanned in but wasn't allowed out. I watched for about 5 minutes while she waited around for something (not sure what), so didn't see the conclusion before we had to go. Really don't think we will be back. Be interesting to hear from the bonus arena to give their side of the story. All very good reasons no doubt. We felt very safe but had to leave because we had only a snack or two to eat since 7am that morning and couldn't get to our packed food. Couldn't justify paying extortionate prices for essentially junk food. All in all, a very long day. Hungry and thirsty by the end. But our son enjoyed it. A drive back home under the Humber bridge that I watched being built from hull uni library building 40+ years earlier! Make your own mind up about all this!!

Visited here last night (7/10/25) to watch Riverdance 30. The venue The location is quite a good location next to the city center and also right next to the Princes Quay Shopping Center. The building is quiet. Nice looking building and the surrounding area is very pleasant. The venue I think holds 3500 people and is very spacious. Security On arrival we joined the queue to go in and this was eased through really quickly with security giving clear instructions to people. We went through the security checkpoint and my partner had her bag searched, this took a matter of seconds and we were entering the venue. Getting to our seats When we walked in you are met with the food and drinks counters (it's expensive) we chose not to have anything as we had already eaten. The signage within the venue is bold and clear. We had no problems getting to our seats. The seating We were in the second row on the ground floor so had a great view. But the seats were small and very claustrophobic feeling for me. I was sat next to a larger person and I myself am a big lad so we were literally touching each other throughout the event, my partner to the other side I felt squeezed into the seat. My partner had a man's knees pushing into her bottom many times. The seats a very ridged and uncomfortable and by the end of the night we were both struggling with stiff backs. Feeling hot. Whist watching the event I started to feel quite hot and I think this was a combination of all the people in the venue and its heating. I felt hot for about 20 minutes or so (this was a good hour into the event) then all of a sudden vast breezes of cool air was pouring over us and it changed everything. We felt totally relaxed again and this was perfect. It of course i assume the air conditioning. The event This was amazing a totally fantastic experience we loved every minute. Getting out Be prepared to wait it takes a while to get people out and this was with both sets of double doors opened. It was emptying peacefully and well organized.

We visited the Bonus Arena in September 2022 to see Brian Cox, opting for a VIP experience that includes a 3 course meal and early entry without queuing. Apparently the restaurant bit is new - or at least it's been relocated. We were sat in window seats offering a view over the grassed area to the south of the venue, the marina and the building site for the A63 improvement works. I liked the view, although for many I imagine it would be better when the roadworks are finished?! Food was bloody fantastic. I really enjoyed the mushroom soup starter and my wife had a prawn cocktail that was very generously portioned. Well timed break before main course was followed by the most beautifully cooked fish I have had for ages. Nice thick juicy fillet in a crisp and tasty batter accompanied by lovely crispy chips. My only criticism is that I prefer skin to be left on my fish - however I appreciate I am in a minority with that. The sweet I chose a berry fruit salad which was again generous, however I was disappointed to find a fluffy blueberry. Event itself was well managed and without excessive queues for anything really. We sat in the stalls bit at the front and I'd say the seats are a bit close if you're a big person. Or I imagine, stuck between two big people 😅 Kind of separate to the arena itself - a bit of advice. Park somewhere other than the local multi storey car parks. We thought we had done well getting parked right next to the arena but it took more than an hour to get out of the car park! I think next time I will try to park Humber street, lowgate or somewhere else a short distance away 👍

Unfortunately our experience with a disabled guest was very poor. The website highlighted their good accessibility. When booking the tickets, there were minimal seating options and the placement on the booking system did not match reality, meaning our party was split up as I thought I'd chosen ticket directly behind the disabled space, but once there, the disabled spaces were in the middle rather than at the side. It was also difficult to book the single normal ticket as lots of the attempts said we couldn't do it for some reason or other. When booking the disabled seat, the system told us we would be phoned to discuss disability etc, which I was looking forward to so that I could ask specific questions related to our requirements. This never happened, so I tried contacting the company to discuss aspects such as parking, but the only way to contact was via email/contact form and I didn't get a response. I'd scoped the sight out on Google maps and found a parking spot as close as possible to the entrance door and we got there right at the start of the time we were asked to be there to make sure we could get a spot. Unfortunately road works meant that spot was not available and there was limited accessible parking. But Myton street car park was empty and that was the closest to the entrance. However once we'd paid and got across to the venue, we found that they'd set up huge hurdles and a long path to get into the entrance and through security and there wasn't any flexibility on letting my disabled guest and carer through separately. Once in, we were told the lifts were all out of action and there was nowhere comfortable to sit and wait... Apparently the café advertised on the website was not available. Someone initially told us we'd have to sit in our seats and wait there for the event as that was the only option, so we went to the door. They said there was another event for ages so we couldn't sit there. They said they'd pass us the pass key for the disabled toilet close to the seat, but that never appeared. They eventually provided a chair for my guest to sit in the corridor area and we ended up waiting there for 2 hours before the event which was delayed. The signage and guidance throughout was horrific, no one knew what they were doing or what was going on. It wasn't a great experience and made things slightly more stressful than would've been nice, but generally individually the staff were nice, just on a whole the organisation lacked and the accessibility is not at the levels they mention on...
