So me and my Wife got Married Today and headed over to Rake Hall with our 2 Daughters and her Friend for a Wedding meal with my Father in-law and Mother in-law. My Mother in-law and Father in-law have eaten at Rake Hall a few times now and they really like it, So we arrived and parked up in the decent size car park(3 Disabled spaces right near the Front Door to the Restaurant). What a lovely building, The immaculate lawn, Fish pond, Beer Garden and the exterior of the building are beautiful, So we headed inside as my Mother in-law and Father in-law were already inside waiting for us. A Waitress took us through to the dining room to our table, Lovely Interior, Rustic Charm with modern Dining tables and chairs, Very well decorated and an absolutely beautiful setting, The walls have old photos of Chester and the fixtures and fittings are in keeping with the building. So after several minutes the waiter came and took our drinks orders(Me, My daughter and her friend ordered 3x Pints of Estrella larger, Wife and her Dad shared a bottle of Red Wine 🍷(Merlot), Mother in-law opted for a Gin and Tonic and my other daughter opted for a Pint of Coke with Ice). Drinks were Served in quick time and the pints were ice cold, crisp and a fantastic pint, My Wife and her Dad really liked the Merlot, Mother in-law really enjoyed her Gin and Tonic. For Food We opted for a few Starters Pate on toast with an apricot chutney, King Prawns, Curried Cauliflower Soup with rustic crusty bread etc, Again Food was very well presented, decent portions and delicious. For Mains I ordered the Beer Battered Fish and chips with Mushy Peas and homemade Tartar Sauce, 4 of the group ordered Rump Steak Baguette with a Dijion Mustard Mayonnaise which came with a side of chips, Our Daughters friend opted for The Steak Burger which came with a side salad and Chunky chips. Honestly again the Food was top draw, Very well presented, Tasted absolutely delicious, Generous sized portions, The food went down an absolute treat. Then due to us having our Wedding cake 🎂 with us we cut it and started plating up the Wedding cake for our group and others in the Restaurant who joined in congratulating us. Honestly I completely see why Rake Hall has a fantastic reputation, Well deserved, The Setting, The Grounds, The exterior, The Interior, The Food, The Drinks, The Service are all exquisite. On Google my reviews have over 27,000,000+ Views, If you want a lovely upmarket Pub/Restaurant, With a lovely ambience, Rustic Charm, Fantastic food, Fantastic drink, Fantastic service etc. Book Rake Hall - You Won't be Disappointed. 5☆ 5☆ 5☆ 5☆ 5☆ 5☆

Stopped in for lunch on Tuesday. 2 people, 2 courses. 2 glasses of Coke which just tasted of soda water. Starters - 1 x Wild Boar & Rabbit Pasty and 1 x Potted Trout With Crab Butter. The Pasty was tiny. It was more of a canope and appeared to be bought in. The trout lacked seasoning, and could've done with being under the pass lights for a minute or 2 to soften the butter, as unfortunately, it was ice cold and with every bite, you end up with a block of butter in your mouth, which is unpleasant. Main Courses - 1 x Venison Pie With Colcannon Mash and 1 x Hake. The Pie itself was delicious. No fault at all. However, the Colcannon Mash was a let down. The Mashed potatoes tasted like they were bought in, rather than made in house. The Hake was barely even lukewarm and didn't taste fresh, I also pulled 6 bones out of it, so it hasn't been prepped properly either and the samphire was stalky, which is a sign it's old. We also ordered a side of onion rings which were simply disintegrated. No waiting staff checked on either course and didn't even ask when clearing the plates. Poor food and poor service from start to finish and relieved of £76 for the displeasure. Would not recommend or return.

Just visited and left hungrier after eating. I would start by saying all staff we encountered were lovely and friendly and the setting is beautiful. We sat outside under a heater and with the blankets provided were very snug. The kids meals were basic. Burger and chips (which where large fluffy and delicious looking) and Mac and cheese. Which was as it says. Just Mac and cheese. For just shy of £7 was a bowl of cheesy pasta, nothing else. Very underwhelming. Our meals where a Camembert which was nice followed by the rarebit and blue cheese sandwich which was sloppy and tasted horrible, however this could be a personal choice, despite enjoying rarebit in other establishments. The fish and chips. Jesus. Bland. Flavourless fish and all the chips were hard crispy bottom of the frying pan scraps. Between them and the fish, left hungrier despite eating. Would definitely not be returning. Charging gastro prices for sub-par food. Unfortunately this being our first visit, it was enough to make us go elsewhere in future.

First visit since becoming a brunning and price pub. Lovely sociable atmosphere, quite busy, but happy to find us a table for 2 in the bar area. The venison and mallard starter was quite substantial for a starter and very tasty, the halloumi fries also good. The main ( half chicken) was also good, but could have done with a little more gravy. The Yorkshire pudding a bit overdone but on the whole happy with our meal. We did observe a couple of mixed up orders, but they dealt with those with good grace. We also offered our table up early to have our coffee on a smaller table so they could accommodate a family of 6, as they were getting busier. Standard as good as any other brunning and price pub.. weren't offered any vouchers as in others on this visit. The pub itself appears well set out, not too different to how it was before, but nicely decorated and well spaced out, with a couple of fires lit. Will visit again.

Called in again Nov 22 for a coffee on a Saturday afternoon, nice atmosphere, fairy busy. Staff still really pleasant.

Visit again march 23, the staff here are so helpful and friendly, they appear to enjoy their work and work really well as a team. The last who served us last night was very bubbly and down to earth, very helpful when having difficulty choosing from the menu because there were too many nice options. Really recommend a visit here.

Sept 23. So a great standard of service and food. Huge portions for their Sunday...

We've been here several times always booking a table in advance, however as it was a sunny day we decided to try our luck with the outside tables. Firstly disappointed that we could not open a tab because we were sitting outside and apparently lots of untrustworthy people sit outside. No table service because they don't do table service outside, so this meant ordering at the bar and paying in advance, if we wanted another drink then trailing to the bar again in the middle of our meal. Starters were fine, king prawn cocktail and buffalo chicken wings. Decided to order a 9oz rump steak, when it arrives it looked great and was a very thick piece of steak. That's where the pleasure ends. I could barely cut it even with the steak knife provided. I had asked for medium rare, however it was rare and barely warm in the middle. Because this was our wedding anniversary lunch I tried not to complain about it, and soldiered on as I didn't want to make a fuss. I eventually gave up and when the waitress came to collect the plates I said it was really disappointing and I couldn't cut it all never mind eat it. The waitress took it away and I was offered some tickets to get £12 off a main course in our next visit. Based on this experience I'm not sure there will be a next visit. We usually go to Rake Hall as a treat but it didn't feel like a treat, we could have gone to any old pub and had the same probably...
