A large group of us booked rooms here for two nights as part of the home leg of our Scotland NC500 road trip. Not having been to York before, we were not aware this hotel is literally in the centre of the city and therefore surrounded by other pubs, restaurants and the food markets. Perhaps a little more research should have been undertaken on our part. ||The first hiccough occurred when we called ahead to enquire about the most suitable parking for our vehicles and unloading our baggage - the person behind the desk didnât have a clue and we ended up skirting York city for about an hour before shooting into the nearest multi storey, which happened to be crazy expensive. The staff member wasnât there when we arrived and the landlady was apologetic but it didnât really help that we had been mislead and wasted a lot of time. The girl on the desk could only say âI donât driveâ as if that was some kind of justification for not knowing the basic parking arrangements of the road. ||We then found out the pub plays host to a band Friday and Saturday nights, in itself not a problem - however we were allocated a room right at the front of the pub overlooking the square and therefore copped all of the noise from downstairs and surrounding clubs/bars/high jinks from revellers. ||What also did not help was that the single glazed wooden framed windows did not close properly - even when I managed to close them (I was afraid they would be damaged) being single glazed they did not block out one bit of noise. ||There was honestly noise outside til around 4am on both nights, and then a bin lorry arrived one morning causing further disruption. Obviously not the fault of the hotel though. ||The rest of the partyâs rooms were not at the front so they did not have the same noise issues as us. ||I would probably stay here again from a convenience perspective but I would avoid a âroom with a viewâ at the front as I didnât get a good sleep either night...

Read moreWas on a trip with my niece and 2 children for an overnight stay, the place itself is lovely and well situated in centre of York. The room was basic but clean. However the customer service was appalling, we returned after tea and was informed by a member of staff who took great pleasure in asking us did we have earplugs as we would need them because there was a night club to the rear of room 5, and that it went on till 5am that wasn't all then the bin would make a lot of noise. We were then presented with about 10pairs of earplugs. It put a real downer on the trip as we worried if we would all get any sleep, but we tried to not let it spoil our break and stayed positive. Later we had a drink in the bar ,with us having the children with us we bought a drink and took it up to the room. We were settling down for the evening we went to put TV on no remote tried the side of TV no nothing completely dead. My niece went down to enquire and was approached by the same member of staff we met on the stairs who happened to be the manager . My niece was informed oh yes someone did say it wasn't working . She didn't help in anyway at all We were told on the day about the boom boom music and the noisey bin men but she omitted to tell us you won't be able to drown out the noise either with the TV as it's broken. After all this we could hear noise from the club but wasn't as bad as Sharron made out. We were treated very badly by the manager however the other staff were very pleasant. I would not recommend...
