Today myself, nanna and 2 brothers went to the Scoffs chippy in Torquay.. it was packed when we went in so we went to the back of the queue to wait for a seat, when it was our turn to sit down when a table became available a member of staff which was very rude came to our table with attitude and tried to tell us to move because which didn't queue which we did, so I politely explained that we had queued for 15 minutes and it was our turn to sit down and she carried on moaning and walked off. My nan is a pensioner who suffers from bad arthritis & diabetes. Also we was sat squeezed behind the door with an open window which was cold and damp as it was throwing it down with rain. When we finished our meal which we couldn't fully enjoy because people kept on staring at us from how the rude woman spoke to us and we felt rushed as the staff kept walking to the table with cleaning cloths while we was still eating. My nan went to the toilet and I was waiting to pay for the meal when the same rude member of staff shouted over to me infront of other customers and told me to leave because I wasn't in the queue for food, so I had to explain twice that I was waiting to pay for the meals. My nan really wasn't happy about the service so she asked me to get the manager so she can speak to her and all I kept getting off the rude member of staff was well tell me (shouting) I said my nan will explain and she shouted again and said well I am asking you. Which was really embarrassing as everyone was staring at us. I realise that it was busy however there is no reason why customers should be spoken to the way we were, what happened to service with a smile? The food on the other hand was lovely just a shame about...
Read moreWent in this afternoon (BH Monday) and expected it to be busy. We were able to pick a table, go and place our order with no issue (no kids fish bites but what can ya do, it had been busy all day)
Food turned up fairly quickly given how busy it was, the drinks didn't. We had to ask for the cup of tea and bottle of drink we ordered, the bottle of drink turned up and were told the tea was on its way.
After finishing our food, which was lovely, fish was tasty and the chips were like I've never had before, lightly battered perhaps? Very nice indeed.
The loss of two stars comes from this:
We asked the chap who had been serving us our food that since we'd finished, and be looking to leave soon, could we be refunded the money for the non existing Tea, perfectly reasonable I thought? The response was "oh it's taking its time because we are short staffed" hmmmm, I understand that, but we are no ready to leave (been here almost an hour) and we've not had it so would like a refund please, he walked off.
Next a lady came over and rather aggressively asked "Have you got a problem?" with her hand planted on the table! Now after we explained the situation, she was perfectly lovely about the whole thing and did indeed give us our Tea money back, but this was overly aggressive, we had children at the table too, just no need.
She again explained that a couple of staff had let them down today, that happens, I've worked in the hospitality trade, but what perhaps could have happened is reduce the amount of covers you accept at any one time to allow the service element to be upheld.
Would go back for the food, but not the service based on...
