I've been a regular customer here for over 10 years food is cooked fresh for each customer so you may have a short wait but its well worth it food is fresh and cooked to perfection every time I have my favourites that have been on the menu for years, such as their peppered chicken, strips of succulent chicken in a peppercorn sauce with rice and thick chips its real comfort food and never disappoints. Another is lime chilli chicken in a jacket potato, its a light meal the lime chilli sauce is fresh not too spicy just a hint of warmth just the thing on a cold day, not sure but I think they do an upgraded version with a larger portion of chicken in this delicious lime & chilli sauce, I'm not the most adventurous in my food choices but my friends are and they have had some amazing meals there, portions are generous with great care to cook and present them to perfection, a good variety of drinks are available, they also do deserts but I've rarely had desert as I'm usually satisfied after my main course, but I did go in with a neighbour for coffee and we had cake with our coffees, I had a cheesecake, again a generous portion which was light and creamy, it was heavenly. I'm sure that no matter what you choose it will be cooked and served to perfection they always ask if everything is to your satisfaction, they want you to enjoy your meal so you'll come back again! They have another branch in Beverley, I was concerned it might not be as good I ordered my usual lime chilli chicken, its was just the same so despite being cooked by a different chef it was still to the same standard so satisfaction...
Read moreMost of the dishes were absolutely delicious and the atmosphere was amazing. The overall experience was ruined by a few poor dishes and the resultant poor customer service experience we received when we tried to send back the dishes.
The chunky chips and the seasoned fries seem to be the exact same product. It was my understanding that fries are thin, crispy alternative to chips and yet the chips/fries we received with the Fish & Chips, the Burger & Fries and the Seasoned Fries were all the same thick chips. When we tried to send the "fries" back it was confirmed that the chunky chips we received were in fact fries.
We ordered many small plates, of which one of them was the king prawns. They were disgusting and really stood out as being extremely poor next to the other delicious small plates. We tried to send them back but were told "obviously we cannot refund you unless there is something wrong with the prawns, you cannot refund them just because you dont like them". I've never had someone say that to me when sending back food. We had to insist they were overcooked (which they were... they were chewy and anaemic) before they agreed to give us a refund.
An otherwise excellent experience was made extremely uncomfortable for us. We will not return here. Other restaurants on Newland Avenue are better...
Read moreWe went to Sleepers for a Birthday meal yesterday as has always previously good, now having been going since it first opened, we've seen change of owners, menus etcetera. As a starter we share Korean chicken, nice as it was it arrived in 5 minutes usually waiting for it to be cooked. Mains my wife had beef stroganoff and I opted for the chicken satay , upon arrival literally 2 minutes after the starter plate had been taken it arrived. Everything was scalding hot . Having tasted the Satay ,it tasted of Indian curry, not a peanut in sight even my wife tried it nope can't taste anything remotely of peanuts. Having caught the eye of the waitress she apologised and took it back to the kitchen. To be honest the response was terrible. 'That's the way it comes ' and offered something else, I chose fish and chips. Yet again literally 2-3 minutes it arrived red hot . It was mediocre at best. Considering we where the only one's in at the time, the food was reheated I.e microwave definitely not cooked fresh as it used to be , 'Chef' which I will use the term lightly as he doesn't have a clue . The food is overpriced reheated crap to be fair,.Massively gone downhill from...
