Used this chippy quite a few times and the food, service and value for money has always been excellent. However, I went the evening of Wednesday 16th October and was left rather disappointed. Aware they shut at 8pm, I thought arriving at 7.40pm was more than enough time to get fish and chips. But, as I walked in, I was told there was no fish because they’d switched the fryers off. I jokingly said ‘I hope you have chips then, to which I was told there were 2 portions left, which were already bagged up on the warmer on top. So I asked for Chips and Peas and saw there were 2 pies in the warmer too. I asked what sort of pies were left and was told a cheese and onion and a chicken and mushroom, so I asked for the chicken and mushroom. When I got home, the chips were a really small portion, cold, and stale. The pie was cheese and onion and the majority of the pastry was rock hard so inedible. I’m surprised that a business that is advertised as being open until 8pm weren’t able to offer one of their main dishes 20 minutes before closing, because they had already switched off a vital piece of equipment. It’s also worth noting that if I had been buying for me and my partner as I normally am, I would have cleared out all remaining chips! If anyone had gone in after me they would have been told there were no chips left, in a chippy! Guys, if you have a closing time, you should make sure that your main items of Fish and Chips are available up...

Read moreis our night, so we buy chips and grin guiltily over the greasy wrapper at each other, crumpling yesterday’s paper in our sticky, unharnessed hands. We are fools for love and salt and we see that it is good. Our feet scatter stars in the inky black, with the click-clack clatter that’s classed so coolly cosmopolitan these days. They have lit up all the lights for us, for our arms and lips and eyes wide open to drink it all in. But, bending at the waist at the pavement’s gutter, clutching each other on the dark street corner – Sudden vertiginous precision finds the old woman with the cataract vision, cramming the memories into her mouth in salty handfuls and...
