The Clock Cafe has THE BEST view imaginable. Delightful afternoon teas and quaint china cups, but there is nothing quaint about the portions - they serve proper Yorkshire farmhouse portions! They give fantastic value for money - we shared one as we hadn't gone there purposefully for afternoon tea but couldn't resist. We still brought a scone home as couldn't finish it. The homemade cakes and treats are gorgeous. I didn't have a lot of cash as it wasn't a planned visit, but you can arrange to pay by bank transfer, they don't have a card machine as it is such a patchy signal area, and even though it did look as though my bank payment had gone through, it has disappeared and I looked like I did a runner - the very understanding team requested contact numbers when paying by bank transfer and they messaged me to explain that the signal maybe affected my transaction. Oh well....we will just have to pop down to settle up....and sample the breakfasts next time,...

We stopped for tea and a scone after visiting the Italian garden and the fairy garden across the road. Firstly, on the door is a notice that cash or bank transfer are the only methods of payment, however, instead of putting the bank details on the notice, you have to ask fir them at the counter (time wasting.) Secondly, there's no WiFi/data signal at the cafe to make the payment. The proprietor takes your name and number and says you can make the payment later from home. All time consuming and ridiculous, needs sorting out. My tea was OK but my scone was hard and a bit burnt, it broke up and I had 4 pieces for ham and cream. My husband, brother & sister-in-law had perfect scones and tea. The experience was spoiled by the payment issue. Photos from...

Set at the foot of the impressive Italian Garden this little cafe sits on the beach side with panoramic views of the South Bay. (Earns 2 stars) The food is a story on its own .. the wife’s scone was good with butter , cream and a little plastic pot of jam which did one half of the scone. My cheese toastie , well as you would have found it was left untouched other than to look inside. It was the saddest cheese toastie I have encountered , cheap medium sliced bread with burnt crusts and not sure what the little bit of cheese was in the middle ? Sorry but if I’m paying Ā£6 for a sandwich it should be edible. Shame because the coffee and the location...

As a family, we all really enjoy the clock cafe. Great food (especially cakes), lovely service, and the views are superb. The one disappointment is the condition of the building's clock tower, which I've been told is a maintenance responsibility of Scarborough Council. For such an iconic building, that tourists are seeing on a daily basis, it's very surprising that the council appear to be guilty of neglect. The attached pictures showcase the dire state of the clock tower and clock faces.
