I chose this hotel because of good Google reviews, but the reality once we got there was very different, and was a huge disappointment. Had room 306 on top floor. The ladies on reception were helpfull, and the young lady in the bar at night cheerful and nice. The bed was a nice surprise, very comfortable and supportive, and would have put it in my suitcase and brought it home if I could have lol... Breakfast buffet was a gastronomical delight although the baked beans were usually cold. BUT: The waitor guy in the pony tail poured coffee instead of tea, and always smelt of BO: needs to wash work clothes much more often.. shame on other members for not pulling him up on this lack of care.. not good... The real let down were the evening meals: the menu was always fabulous sounding, but the food that arrived was very poor; always too dry and lacking enough sauce or gravy, and seasoning.. reminded me of school dinners at their worst. Needs huge improvements or new chefs or more budget? The state of our bedroom: shabby, totally lacking any style etc. Could do with "The Hotel Inspector" visit!! Upgraded room.. what on earth are their normal rooms like?? Cant imagine any worse... The atmosphere in the hotel caused by most staff was one of boredom and despondancy. It was only lifted by the lovely guests staying there at that time. I feel like I no longer trust Google reviews based on this experience here, which is sad. The National Holidays experience was also dreadfull: the coach to Scarborough set off from Sheffield, yet the toilet stank, had no toilet paper, or soap. No info at all from them about day trip to Whitby, or on anything else. Felt very let down. On the way home, the coach was cramped and toilet stank.. again.. I had booked seats 6C and 6D directly behind toilet incase of my boy getting travel sick, but as they used non-National Holidays coaches, the seating was wrong and resulted in my boy vomiting because he couldnt get to the loo in time, as no longer behind the loo. Coach driver totally unsympathetic to childs welfare, only cared that a mess was on the floor. He didnt offer me anything to clean it up with. It takes about 6 mins to disinfect such a small area and put loo rolls in place and ensure there is soap etc, before picking passengers up. Shabby. None of their 5 star reviews even vaguely resemble the reality that I experienced. Feel...
Read moreRecently I went on a trip with my mother to Scarborough with Shearings Coach Holidays,to visit several Towns of Yorkshire. Whilst at the New Southlands Hotel, there was a big issue of sickness, and my Mother got very sick after eating the main meal at this provided Hotel. Unfortunately She was unable to participate in the rest of the trip, because of this. It was nothing to do with Lunch out as, we ate the same for lunch, and were fine, untill after eating dinner. Another Person on the trip also threw up in the Lounge area, after dinner, and I also head of others being sick. As for myself, I also became sick on the last day there after breakfast.
Anyway, when we got back from our trip we explained to the company who sent a letter to apologize for what happened, But attempted to brush away the situation saying that after our trip no one else became sick. But of course they never addressed the fact that several people were sick when we were there, "during" our trip! My mother is not happy that they made no attempt to refund the values of the meals that she couldn't eat because of her sickness, or the trips that she missed out on, and we cannot recommend this company because they refuse to accept any blame, their customer care is "to ignore" . And whilst they apologize for this, they refuse to do the right thing and refund the forementioned costs, like any other Normal company would. And this does not include other expenses, that were incurred because of the sickness.
Whilst the rooms provided by the Hotel were good, unfortunately, due to the sickness I experienced and others, I cannot recommend this place. It's also really bad the customer service that we have had to deal with from Shearings; who have basically tried to completely ignore this issue, despite the fact that it was well noted by the Hotel, during our and others, stay. We were not the only ones the Hotel had to make...
