Calling ahead of time to book a birthday and anniversary dinner into one for a Monday evening reservation should have been special.
It was anything but.
We arrived at 7:50pm so before needed so our table can be prepped only to be told 15 mins later it still wasnât ready and if we would like to take a seat and wait and get a drink. We agreed only to have to wait a further 10 minutes for someone to even take our drink order at that point we wanted to order food but wasnât able to.
Another 15 mins past and we are then told our table still wasnât ready and the waitress pointed to some dingy table next to us in the waiting area and said we could have that table instead. Fed up at waiting and getting hungry we just accepted this.
The moment we sat down the table itself moved like an old sea-saw. They could see we were unhappy but just left this.
We ordered our food and the starters came promptly where we got garlic bread and soup of the day (with a cold bread roll).
Mains then took ages to come out to the point we had been there an hour and a half which is really ridiculous. Mains arrived and part of our dish was missing (onion rings) we would have let this go but we were so hungry we mentioned this and then very quickly some more arrived which were underdone and really stodgy.
Paying ÂŁ75 in all for a few drinks and two mains with two starters was very overpriced considering we had a better meal in a local pub the night before for 2/3rds of the price. The food was bland and dry and I would never return.
If you are coming to Cornwall for a nice getaway avoid this place...
Read moreAttached to the Falcon Hotel, it is best to telephone and book if you are going at peak time, season. Its situation at the top end of the quayside and offers a nice environment if you wish to eat or drink alfresco with plenty of seating. Inside feels comfortable with good seating, orders are taken over the bar which give you the option to prepay or tab drinks etc; no matter how busy there never seems any pressure to vacate your seats. The staff are effective, quietly quick, and polite. The environment always appears clean and tidy this includes the bathroom facilities. There is a varied, fresh choice from a sensible menu that I believe to be value for money. There are the options for children's portions and some vegetarian options. I always think there could be more options that are meat free wherever I go out to eat, I am not fully vegetarian but do like the option. After dinner and weather permitting you can walk a few calories off and take the short walk along the quayside the the beach or a walk along the cliffs Would I go again? Yes absolutely and do so about 5 or 6 times a year...
Read more3/5 is harsh but I feel it needed a bit more to get to 4/5.
Two sides to this story but I think 3/5 suits for now. I liked the chicken burger, good quality chicken, chips and the extra bacon was great. Chips were good. I'd order this again.
Pork belly wasn't what I'm used to back home (London) but it was nice. I wouldn't buy it again but I wouldn't say no if it was bought for me.
The staff were all friendly, considerate and helpful. They really are 4/5 stars.
This is a good place to eat. Good views outside. The bar next door was loud as they had a live act but she was a good singer - no mark downs there.
If I was new to the area, I'd definitely try the Coachman's Bar &...
