This review is specifically about staying in the 'Tally Ho' king room (not reviewing the restaurant/food etc)
tl;dr; loved it, would happily stay there again.
We stayed for ~6 days in the 'Tally Ho' room and loved it (can't speak for the other rooms). Was a quiet room facing the river. Nice comfy king bed. The fridge was restocked with 2 beers and some bottles of water every day. Shower was super good (good water flow, good temp and size). Room was comfortable and exactly what we were looking for. Easy checkin. Great location (across the road from the beach) and close to everything. Friendly employees.
Things to be aware of (not bad things, but just to be aware).
If you have mobility issues ( hard to climb stairs ) then you should be aware that the rooms are at the top of a little narrow staircase, and if you want to leave before the pub is open or after it is closed then you have to navigate a very narrow spiral external staircase which will probably cause problems, especially if it has been raining as it'll get slippery. Although it wasn't too hot when we visited, I could see that the room could get hot in the height of summer. They do offer to provide you with a fan if you ask, I would just ask for it as soon as you arrive, as it'd be better to have and not need it vs need and not have it on a hot night. The wifi internet isn't that good, so don't expect to be streaming lots without download pauses. You only get...
Read moreThis place is a hidden gem in Lyme Regis with comfortable rooms and welcoming customer service from a great team (especially Sheree!). ||We arrived at 3pm and were given the lowdown on the parking in the local area (with a handy tip to pay for parking just before 6pm to avoid having to wake up early to pay for parking). Yes, you had to pay for parking, but this accommodation is located in a very built up area immediately in front of the beach and the hotel doesn't have any space for free parking. ||The quality of accommodation was first rate, with an excellent emperor sized bed in our room, quality bed linens, and a huge bathroom with a separate shower and roll top bath. ||We didn't eat in the pub (having opted to have dinner at the excellent Rockfish nearby). We enjoyed our breakfast the next morning, with high quality ingredients, generous servings of toast with butter, and excellent coffee. ||This is an excellent option for those passing through Lyme Regis for a tour of Dorset or Devon. We stayed for one night and found the customer service to be excellent (every member of staff we met were kind and enthusiastic about the local area). We would definitely recommend this accommodation to anybody who values good service, a quality breakfast, and a good night's sleep in a...
Read moreBit disappointed. We went as a group for a surprise celebration, into the front part of the pub. We phoned ahead and gave prior warning.
We occupied most of the front part (where bands used to play), adults standing and kids sitting. All the kids ate and the adults ordered a fair amount of drinks.
We were constantly being asked to sit down at a table that we had chosen by the staff. Bear in mind this is a pub not a restaurant and we were not in the restaurant section. We were stood in groups in and around the tables on a wet Sunday afternoon, it wasn’t exactly heaving in there so not causing a problem.
Secondly, the bar staff were very unwelcoming. For example, I went to the empty bar where the bar staff was unloading the glass washer. She saw me looked up and carried on. Not a word of acknowledgment. Once the she had finished, she came over, however, whom I assume to be the manager came from the restaurant and jumped in before me and ordered a cocktail. The bar staff then proceeded to make the cocktail, still without acknowledging me, nothing said, not even a smile. Rude! Not the type of service you would expect from front of house staff.
Food was very good, but the service and vibe not welcoming at all. This pub has gone down hill! Also, why is the upper...
