We paid a pretty high price for what was billed to be a spectacular New Year's Eve taster menu and it was quite possibly the most disappointing culinary experience I've ever had. The menu was not as billed, a lot of what was promised did not materialise, there was clearly a crisis in the kitchen which, if shared with the clientele, might have been forgiven. But overall it was one of the shoddiest restaurant experiences I've never endured. It being New Year's Eve added to the disappointment. Another couple complained very volubly and in a confrontational manner which was unfortunate but: their sentiment that they felt they should not pay for such a shoddy night was completely understandable.

I've posted this so far after the event because recounting the comedic elements of such a ridiculous evening has called it to mind and reading the reviews made me think I should post something honest. The meal was awful, horrifically over-priced, and despite the fact that this MUST have been obvious to the staff, the elephant in the room was never addressed. I didn't post this at the time because my discomfort at the aggression staff received made me feel sorry for them. But I'm sorry: we paid an extortionate amount for a pathetically substandard meal, with no apology. I won't make the same...

I have dined at Millside on a handful of occasions, and it has always been excellent. Recently I had the pleasure of dining at Millside in celebration of my 50th birthday, and the experience was absolutely fantastic.

From the moment we walked through the door, the warm and friendly service made us feel instantly welcome. The staff went above and beyond to ensure every aspect of our experience was perfect.

The food was particularly outstanding. I’ve been fortunate to have eaten in some amazing restaurants over my (now many…) years, and I can honestly say that the Bream I ordered was the best fish dish I have ever had. Perfectly cooked, absolutely delicious, truly showcased the chef’s talent - she is extremely good at what she does.

The attention to detail in both the cuisine and the overall dining experience was impeccable. Millside is a true gem, nestled in the stunning and historic old mill area of Lyme Regis - I cannot recommend it highly enough. My guests who joined me are still raving about it! So, whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or just looking for an unforgettable meal, this is the place to go, you...

God ! Where do I start? From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with the most amazing smile of Gemma and Georgina. You’re sat in a lovely listed building with a lot of history. The food ? Unholy ! Tempura oysters/normal oysters are the freshest I’ve ever had. Scallops are hand dived and served on a bed of sweet onion purée and puffed black rice for a crunch. The lobster served with fries and salad was divine, I have no idea what they do to their butter but it’s abysmally delightful and this is just lunch! I can imagine the dinner experience is incredible with the place full of positive energy and vibes. The chefs in the kitchen are very well trained by the chef-owner as well as the front of house team ran by Gemma. If you’re lucky you might even meet Mark and Teddy the Parrot ! The wine perfectly pairs with whatever dish you’re having, always ask for a recommendation as the guys know their wines. All in all I will always come here when I’m back in Lyme Regis. Unfortunately in Bournemouth we do not have such a hidden gem anywhere. Such a shame I can only give 5 stars as I would like to give them the...

Dropped by for dinner, where I ordered the scallops, mackerel and rhubarb clafoutis. Everything was beautifully prepared. Saying that, it must have been an off night, as the kitchen team seemed to have encountered a few challenges when prepping the meals. But, it all ended well as the service team handled everything professionally resulting in both a comped dessert AND an extra dessert. All done voluntarily without me even having to bring up any of the issues myself. The only thing I would suggest for the future is it might be worth investing in an air purifier or fan to help move the air in the restaurant. Because it was pouring rain outside at the time, I noticed the space was locking in various odours from other guests such as BO, perfume and cigarette smoke. As a result, I found that I couldn’t really smell the dishes. As a fine dining establishment, I suspect it is preferred that such smells not interfere with the dining experience carefully curated by your team.

We arrived early for our reservation, but seated promptly. It was early in the evening so we had the restaurant to ourselves, which was lucky as we have a noisy toddler in tow. The lady serving us, Gemma was very helpful and friendly. We decided to go with the seafood platter to share and other sides. There was a children's menu available, but the boys also enjoy seafood so they had bits from our platter as well as chips and garlic bread. Food was lovely and service was friendly. We did wonder however for a sharing platter for 2, there should have been a crab each. The substituted curried mussels over the anchovies were a little disappointing as we didn't quite enjoy the flavour. Overall it was a lovely experience.
