This is a lovely spot and have been coming here for years. Giving it a lower rating because one or the waitresses clearly had a terrible flu, sweating and chesty coughing over our food, and in to her hands. I understand that it is difficult to find staff and many people are off sick. Regardless of whether it was COVID or not, at the very least they should have the consideration to wear a mask, otherwise they should not come in to work. There are many vulnerable elderly people here. I saw absolutely no effort to even wash her hands after coughing in to them.
This should be common sense and courtesy.
**Response to the owner's reply. Rather than making excuses and trying to justify, I would have simply promised to look in to this.
We did speak to the management in the restaurant, however, the staff is question continued to cough, also in to her hands and didn't not appear to wash them or put on a mask. Coughing indoors, in a very chesty uncotnroled way, clearly she wand well and there were many elderly people indoors. We were sat inside where it was no so hot. Hope this was a one off. I'm changing the rating to a higher star as I don't want this to affect your business, but do hope you really take this seriously, people's health is more important than...
ย ย ย Read moreIn the past I have recommended this place as a nice place to eat, the ladies are always friendly and helpful.
If you have any type of intolerance or allergy, I would NOT recommend this place. I have Non-celiac gluten sensitivity (NCGS). I ordered a gluten free breakfast & was served sausages full of gluten. I was told by the chef in front of other staff members who took our order, I didn't order a gluten free breakfast only gluten free bread. The whole conversation about how the food is cooked and the fact black pudding was not gluten free appears to have been forgotten about.
Disgusting, rude attitude regarding food intolerances. As for being shown the allergy sheet, I was shown that for the first time after the event and have never seen it on previous visits.
This incident will take weeks to recover from, had I been a full blown Celiac I'd be seeing...
ย ย ย Read moreDropped into Bell Cliff Sunday, late morning for full brekky. So hard to find somewhere for a good hearty breakfast out of the cold while walking the dog, most other places offering coffee and biscuits etc sat under brolleys and awnings. Met by very friendly and efficient staff, nothing was a problem, food served quickly with a proper china pot of tea. Breakfast was cooked very well thank you, nice mushrooms, lovely eggs etc. Attentive staff cleared table and were very friendly to our dog offering a treat, so we all felt welcome. We spent ยฃ28.50 with a tip. Definitely dropping back into here for morning walks. Thank you. The cafe is full of character with it's wooden beams and floor. A traditional British cafe, good value, great...
