Sadly the food here is a real disappointment. As an early adopter of vegetarian and vegan food it's a shame that the menu seems to have degraded over the last 20 years. The vegan options are pretty much limited to just falafel dishes. Most other dishes have a vegan option but that just means you pay the same amount but for less food. Even if they do compensate by giving you extra of something else it's still not going to be as good as a properly thought out outright vegan dish. Plus sides are it's quite large so lots of seating. An outside area. Plugs dotted about for if you want to charge your phone and all seems clean and well maintained. Access for wheelchairs shouldn't be a problem, not sure about the toilets though. Food hygiene rating 5/5.

Went here for an evening with my best buddy. It was busy when we arrived at 8pm on a Friday night but we managed to get a nice little table for two close to the bar. The service was very good and friendly. We ordered food and it arrived quickly and piping hot. Which is always a good sign. We had the betroot burger and the halloumi burger and did half/half for maximum eating. Absolutely delicious 😋 Good portions, lovely fresh food and thoroughly enjoyed it all. By the time we left at 11.20 the pub was heaving! But still a good atmosphere. It didn't matter that the food is veggie or vegan. It was super yummy and very tasty.

Very vegan friendly pub with some excellent roast selections. Personally I went for the cashew Wellington, as a meat eater, I was very pleasantly surprised with not only the quantity of food but the quality of the Wellington roast. Very succulent and the pastry was of great quality. Trimmings were lovely and little shaved sweet potatoes that were cooked were a nice surprise. Family friendly in the heart of Brighton's Laines.

Hello I’ve been coming to the George for quite a few years and the food was always top notch and reasonably priced. Half price Mondays was always a welcome treat, however I came yesterday (28.10) with a friend to find out there was a new menu and the kitchen changed, plus half price Mondays no more. Sad to say the standard of food has gone down dramatically. We order 2 veggie burgers, a small bowl of a handful of chips, costing £29. The burgers were presented on a small little plate with no garnish as before and bland, just leaving an underwhelming eating experience, not worth the money we paid for. The previous kitchen you felt like you had a proper eating experience, well presented and very tasty burgers with fries included. It’s such a shame as we’ve loved coming to the pub over the years, nice atmosphere, attentive, friendly staff and lovely food but sadly won’t be eating...

Went in and all was well, First pint served by a nice Lady behind the bar and came with about 1 cm of Froth on the top. Next pint served by Bloke came with a head you would get with a Mr Whippy, I asked for a top up as I don't pay 5,20 for froth, he said yes, i drank a small bit then he turned round and said I am not replacing that with Liquid and gave me more froth. Now when challenged on the pint line on this particular Jug was the top of the glass he said yes but they all come with a head, Ok thats fine but not 4-5 cm of froth, he said it helped keep the fizz in, oh my lord as if its going to go flat in the 20-25 minutes it will be in my possession. ridiculous. If you want to pay for 5 pints and only have 4 then this is the place to go. Anyhow the Lord Nelson up the road does a proper measure so will be going...

Was so glad to see this pub was still going, hadn't been since I was at college 8 years ago. Took my girlfriend here last August for old times sake and we really enjoyed it, so much so she decided we should take her family there when they visited Brighton for the first time. The pub is traditional, with a Brighton twist. Always see happy staff here who like to have a bit of a laugh. The food, well it offers a simple but broad menu, great for meat eaters and vegans! The portion sizes sure won't disappoint anyone either. Personally I recommend to anyone that they should have the falafel burger!! Location is a bit out the centre but it always has a nice atmosphere here and always feels like an active pub with a nice crowd. We won't be back to Brighton for a while but Im sure we'll be back here...
