Having recently moved to Bedford from Southampton I am very unfamiliar with the area. I came across the Ship Inn one evening whilst out walking the dog. The landlady was absolutely lovely and was more than happy to accommodate my dog too. I was slightly intimidated being on my own in what seemed to be a male orientated pub but all the locals were incredibly welcome and hospitable. I now have a regular pub and have started to make friends here. There is currently no food served but I'm informed that this is due to change soon but the landlady often puts on food for the regulars free of charge!! It's a shame this lovely little place is tucked away from the centre but maybe that's its charm? I'm looking forward to getting out into the beer garden too when the weather starts to get better as they've got a tv out there for...

It feels like they don't want you there, hard to really put your finger on. The staff are functional but not especially friendly and they do literally no food besides crisps and nuts, even at lunchtime. They show football almost ALL the time if you are into that and they have a covered smoking area out the back but as neither of these interest me, it's not a pub I would recommend unless you are really gasping or...
