Disappointing visit to a place we had high hopes for. First the good points: great location; good friendly service from the front of house staff; very good coffee. Now the disappointing bit: my wife's favourite breakfast is eggs benedict, she always has this wherever we go around the country and indeed the world if it's available. The eggs benedict turned up looking great, very well presented, but as soon as she took the first mouthful she stopped, the hollandaise sauce was stone cold (I tried it too). We immediately asked for it to be returned and a few seconds later a waitress came back saying that the chef stated that this is how the sauce is always presented. Never have my wife or I ever had a hollandaise sauce with eggs benedict that was anything less than warm or at the very least room temperature. So we asked for another and I ate my own Farmers breakfast which was okay but again not very warm while we waited (another diner behind us told me that she had also complained about the cold plates and cold food). I finished mine and still the replacement eggs benedict hadn't arrived. I've no doubt that my wife's dish had been put to the bottom of the chef's priorities. We decided not to bother, we had things to do, cancelled the eggs and paid for what we had. Looking up hollandaise sauce online the general consensus is it should be warm which is what our experience confirms, so like I said, very disappointing, but it didn't spoil our day in beautiful Exeter at...
Read moreHad breakfast on Tuesday 21st August after a recommendation. Ordered Eggs benedict for my granddaughter and my daughter and husband had poached eggs with bacon & toast, I opted for the bacon and sausage bap and asked for a granary roll. After about 20 nineties the food arrived and first impressions were good. We had to ask for condiments which arrived. Sadly the bacon resembled in texture which I described to the waitress shoe leather this clearly was cooked and hour earlier and left under a heat lamp. All the eggs on the benedict meals were overcooked and the Hollandaise sauce had an acrid taste about it and the bacon instead of the ham was again over heated/cooked and was barely edible. The waitress asked when she came to clear the table asked if everything was okay and of course I said no and told her the above she apologised and said she would mention it to the manager, but sadly we had nobody follow up our complaint. When my daughter paidcthe bill of £57 another end ( which I advised her not to the waitress just looked away. Sadly won't be returning after this and considering this was a birthday breakfast for me it kind of ruined the start of the day. We went to another restaurant for lunch as we couldn't return because of our...
Read moreWent for lunch. There was a Christmas menu however if you want the roast turkey you have to have a starter else they won't let you have the roast. Had the seafood chowder instead. Was pretty bland and didn't seem to have much seafood but plenty of veg. One starter, two chowder and two drinks were £44. Not good value considering it didn't taste like chowder. To add insult to injury the turkey roast if you have it has a £2 surcharge in small print at the bottom of the menu which is a bit off given its really the only Christmas thing on the Christmas menu. £21 for a soup and turkey roast on the lunch menu seems very OTT to me but then I didn't have the turkey and maybe its amazing. Wouldn't go again for the Christmas menu but have enjoyed lunch here in the past. Staff are very good and so is...
