So picture this scene. I'm on a local vegan group and I'm informed that yo sushi have a delicious vegan menu. Wow I thought how exciting I can't wait to try somewhere new!
So full of excitement my partner and I hopped in the car and drove to Princesshay and made our way to the restaurant.
Upon arriving we stood at the "please wait here" sign a chap came over and looked us up and down but said nothing. We asked if he worked there as it weren't too obvious. He nodded picked up two menus and showed us where to sit then walked away without a word.
"OK I thought no biggie we've got our menus let's choose something nice" and we got to choosing. I was ecstatic at all the vegan choices and I couldnt wait to get stuck in.
Only we weren't sure what to do to order. We'd never been before after all and there was nobody to ask, there was a button to press but I wasnt sure if it was to call table service or to stop the conveyor of (lovely looking) food going round the room. (conveyor cool touch by the way).
When the same chap who seated us came by we asked if we could order and he told us to press the button my partner began to say "oh well we're ready to order anyway" but he ignored us and walked away.
"no biggy" I thought "maybe he's already serving someone else." I knew he was a server as I had seen him taking an order beforehand with another table.
But he simply picked up a tray of cutlery from the kitchen and walked away. We sat there for another 15 minutes, now I'll add my fella and I we aren't the classiest dressers in the world, and we probably looked a bit scruffy compared to the other clientele inside, maybe that's why the chap serving immediately went to a (better dressed) couple who had come in after us and took thier order instead.
Realising after a while that we probably weren't welcome (I wasn't aware of any dress code, if there is one I do apologise 🙄) so I shrugged on my hoodie and voted with my feet.
What a shame that tofu katsu curry was just asking to be eaten. Never again.
Edit- thanks to Yo's fantastic regional manager Steve our experience has been entirely turned around and we have since had an excellent meal with these guys. New staff are absolutely lovely and new...
Read moreAlways loved going to yo sushi but definitely won’t be going back after today. Four of us attempted to go for my 21st birthday meal, along with my mums guide dog. The woman on the door said she wasn’t sure about our dog and went to check if we could come in, which straight away threw us off as it is illegal to refuse a service dog and they are protected under the equality act. The woman came back and took us to an area with some very small chairs (which honestly looked like children’s chairs) and said we couldn’t go in the main area with the dog incase people didn’t like dogs. For one that’s not an acceptable excuse because again, you can’t refuse a service dog simply because you don’t like dogs, but secondly where we were taken to only had three chairs when there were four of us, the only other seat was a much higher bar seat so we wouldn’t have even been sat together properly. My mum rightly felt insulted by this and quite frankly we would have rather been refused service altogether rather than put in a more secluded area in these small seats. The woman serving said she wasn’t being insulting but the thing is if someone tells you that the way you have treated them is insulting then there’s no argument about it, it’s insulting, end of. The whole experience was ridiculous and it’s the first time in a long while that any establishment has had an issue with my mum and her guide dog. It made her feel like a second class citizen and very unequal. clearly there is a lack of equality training here and something needs to be done to avoid this sort of discrimination in the future. What i do find funny is that this happened to another guide dog owner in another location and in the apology they stated that “of course all guide dogs are welcome in all of our restaurants” clearly not and clearly this is an issue with the entire company not just this location. This experience would also make it apparent that nothing was ever really done about the incident with the other guide dog owner as some employees still seem to be clueless when it comes to the law and equality act. All in all if you have a service dog I would avoid...
Read moreI was introduced to Yo sushi about 3 years ago by my partner, as a sushi lover this place was absolutely perfect for me. I have probably been in here now so many times that I have lost count! I love the staff members, all are absolutely lovely, very helpful, always get to give some amazing recommendations if you are stuck on what to pick! Lukas is absolutely incredible! Lovely lovely guy, cheerful and makes me smile each time, very cool guy! Always seated very quick, when they seat you (as they recognise my partner and I) they ask if we want drinks straight away so we can have a nice drink whilst we decide on the food. The menu is absolutely packed with the most amazing foods, I can safely say I haven't had anything I haven't liked. The portions for the small bowls are great too, you really get your money's worth. I always end up getting a few bowls from the conveyor belt as they put beautiful and tasty looking meals, snacks and desserts. Some of the newer items on the menu have blown my mind!! Chicken Katsu Curry Ramen... Literally the best thing I have ever eaten! What an idea! Two of my favourite things put together, genius! Wish I can go more with how much I crave their food, the atmosphere is lovely, you get the chefs in an open kitchen, it's so interesting to see them work! Comfortable booths, stunning menus, great everything. Anything I missed out?? I love Yo Sushi with all my heart and I am definitely coming back very soon! Need my Katsu curry ramen! One thing I have missed is now they offer you full portion meals, like the chicken Katsu curry ramen! You can get a full meal of this, which definitely fills me up. The standard bowl size is definitely generous though if you want room for more amazing food. The pricing is as expected, you definitely get your money's worth for sure! I highly recommend Yo Sushi to everyone, the Vegan menus are packed too, if you are a vegan! Food for everybody! Compliments to the chefs!...
