Took my son out for his birthday brunch to Bills Windsor 🖤🖤🖤#brunch #windsor #minivlog #fyp#trendin

Bill‘s Restaurant in Windsor is located by the central train station next to the tickets office. The venue has a dark wooden facade in keeping with the antique style theme of the shops in the surrounding concourse. You enter via the two old fashioned swing doors at the front (I’m sure the door on the right is narrower than the one on the left resulting in a side ways shimmy to get in. The scrape marks on the floor where the doors open give an indication of the age and character of the venue). Inside the restaurant is like a little maze of dividers and cubby hole booth like tables. The staff are very welcoming polite and friendly. Once seated the menu offers a relatively small but good choice of food and array of beverages. The atmosphere is almost darkly moody but very relaxing. Trips to the toilets located at the far left (when looking at the front of the restaurant) are in the spirit of navigating an obstacle course due to the layout and people moving about but hey it’s quite good fun figuring out how you are going to do it. I had the meatballs which were good. We were a large group so saw a good selection from the menu and all looked good with no complaints from anyone. The food was good. A very relaxing Saturday lunch. Recommended. (Parking wise I always park at the King Edward VII car park on the outskirts of the town centre. It’s about a 7 minute walk not the 13 minutes navigation maps calculate it to be. Cost about £8 for 4 hours). Give Bill’s a go.

Not a bad experience as such, but not a good one either. We were a chance table for two for some quick lunch on a Monday, granted first day of the summer holidays so had a fairly busy atmosphere, but was soon dying off after the lunch rush. We had a good table, and chose to take advantage of the brunch menu! Food was OK - nothing to complain about a classic full English really. Service however was the disappointment, not much enthusiasm from our server, no smiles all round in the restaurant really, even management! Our food was quickly dumped on the table, and the woman I can only assume was part of management as not in uniform, ran off so quickly my partner didn’t even see the person that delivered our food! We weren’t offered any other condiments either which was a shame. Half way through our meals and still had no check back, even though restaurant was emptying out. Every conversation (if you can call it that) seemed transactional and lacked any personal touch, this was a shame as I was eyeing up some of the desserts but the service didn’t really want to make us stay any longer than we needed to. Perhaps I’m picking as I work in hospitality too! But unfortunately, the fact we weren’t asked how our time was or how our meals are at any point in our stay, is just basic service standards. Also dirty specials/drinks menu on the table isn’t a good look. A big contrast compared to our visit to the Bills in Richmond! Hopefully we just caught a bad day?

I feel really bad writing this but i feel like it should be said so that nobody makes the same mistake as me, i have Celiac which means i can’t eat gluten even the smallest amount and i thought bills was a decent place when it came to allergy awareness and all (they do have a whole gluten free menu) me and my partner popped in on Saturday and as we were seated i asked for a gluten free menu, as i ordered i specified that it was from the gluten free menu (it was also a different colour to my partners menu) and then when the food arrived i asked if it was gluten free, this seems like overkill but you can never be too careful and my reaction can be very serious to having even tiny amounts a couple of minutes after i’d started eating i was told the meal of been given was not safe for me to eat because it had just been prepared from the regular menu and had things in it that i definitely couldn’t have thankfully i’d picked around the edges and basically avoided the toppings which is what i couldn’t have but if i was hungry i seriously could’ve eaten enough for a hospital trip i understand that they were busy and mistakes happen, i also really felt for the staff they’re obviously under a lot of pressure and i didn’t want to press them/make a scene at all but as my partner pointed out, if that had been a lethal peanut/shellfish allergy i’d be dead at their table right now we had the meal already taken off our bill when it was given to us, which i appreciate but nobody told us that, and we didn’t ask for it, i would he happy to pay for it but i think the staff were just a bit concerned that i might kick up a fuss but i’m not that way inclined i’ll just take the safe meal they replace it with and be on my way in no way do i blame the staff/kitchen because i understand busy periods can be very difficult i just think perhaps overall there should be a little more allergy awareness just to ensure a slip up like that doesn’t happen again because if it was different it could be fatal i’ve been to bills before and deemed them a great allergy safe restaurant but i’ll sadly be taking them...
