We have been loyal customers of the Golden Grid for years. But unfortunately tonight the service lost our patronage perhaps for good.

We have always been impressed with the quality of the food and the level of customer service that this establishment provides. However the service tonight was below parr. I can only classify it as hostile, rude and apathetic.

Service was slow from the start. With staff seemingly more interested in hanging out in the kitchen than on the floor. When we were finally waited on the staff member was chewing gum as he took the order. A clear sign of his lack of interest. When serving he would lean over a member of our party repeatedly passing drinks to the end of the table out of his reach and practically knocking into her every time.

There was a mix up with the order (which happens and isn’t in and on itself a problem), and in fairness I do not believe was wholly the waiters fault, however when discussing it, I was greeted with hostility and eye rolling.

After that, other t bringing out the order, we were largely and deliberately ignored. The few tables such as there were remained stacked full of dirty plates while the wait staff again disappeared into the kitchen for long periods of time.

We had to ask for our table to be cleared several times, so that we could order desserts. They took a few plates away and then left us waiting for about 15 minutes, still with the remaining dirty plates and cutlery. We asked politely again that the table be cleared and if we could order deserts, upon which one staff member completely ignored us and walked off while the other rudely replied that they were busy. There were only 7 covers in the room. She proceeded to snap at me that she needed to serve the table behind us. I dread to think how they would cope if it was actually busy.

At this we decided enough was enough and that it was time to go. We left to pay downstairs. There was no member of staff there either. Had we been more dishonest types we could have easily walked off without paying. Needless to say we paid our bill and left.

I have to say we were shocked. I’m not sure if this is how the new owner usually manages his businesses, or if this is the result of untrained and uncaring staff members. But the wait staff in any establishment being the front face of the business embody its values.

I echo what I said above, currently the values presented are rude, apathetic and hostile. Which are entirely opposite to the terrific reputation that this establishment has held for countless years.

Sadly this debacle has resulted in a loss of our patronage and this...

Called in here today for lunch, WHAT A MISTAKE! Don't get me wrong I don't mind paying for food that is expensive if it's good and well prepared, however today's offering was expensive but poor quality and not in the least appetising. We were pointed towards our table that wasn't really comfortable due to lack of space between other tables, infact when a group of 3 tried to sit at the next table we had to move our table and chairs backwards so that they could get in and sit on 2 of the chairs, one of their 4 chairs was completely unusable due to a stack of high chairs jamming it in. Our order was taken and we had quite a long wait for our food ( they were quite busy) the order was taken by a pleasant young lady. When the food did arrive although my haddock was really hot the chips were just lukewarm, I thought that bread came with the meal so had to ask for it, it came quickly but by then the chips were stone cold. I asked a waitress if it was possible to have some hot chips and she went to remove the whole plate, I pointed out the fish would probably be cold by the time it was returned so put it onto my side plate to continue eating it. When the chips came back they had obviously been scrapped onto a fresh plate and microwaved (hard on the outside nuclear hot in the middle). Wife went for the salmon in a creamy garlic butter sauce 🤣🤣🤣🤣 with broccoli and sliced potatoes (over cooked broccoli and a new potato sliced and pan fied in oil 🤮) The one slice of bread and butter wasn't crusty as stated on the menu and cost £1.95. When we were asked by a member of staff I voiced my concerns and said that I would not be returning, she told me that even though she worked there she wouldn't eat there due to food quality and price. Trust me I won't be going back again. The only thing I would recommend however is the pot of tea, it was excellent and came with a separate pot of boiling water to top up the main pot to avoid it becoming stewed. The member of staff I spoke to about the quality did however take the drinks off the bill and discount it, which was fair, however I really would have preferred better food so I could eat it all and paid full...

I normally don't leave reviews, but this was one of the worst restaurants I have ever been to. Myself and my family go inside the place, and are told to go upstairs to wait to be seated. We are standing there awkwardly for a couple minutes before we have to ask a waitress if we can be seated. We received are menus and had our order taken relatively fast, giving a good impression and helping us forget about the seating issue. After about 15 minutes, our food comes out. So the horror begins. Myself and my mother got fish & chips, and my brother got a cheeseburger. The burger he received was not fresh meat at all, it was clearly paxkafed frozen meat that was just slapped on a grill for a few minutes. The buns were also essentially cardboard, and the cheese was more or less spoiled milk that was dumped on to the meat. It was disgusting. The fish was actually quite decent however, so there was at least some luck to be had. However it's basically impossible for a seaside town restaurant to have poor seafood. However while we were munching down this food, we had no idea that this was the last time service would appear at our table for the next hour and a half. After finishing what little meal we had after the fiasco with the cheeseburger, it was just waiting. Keep in mind that it was NOT crowded, there were only about 10 other tables with people at them. There would have been less, but the service was nowhere to be seen. in the rare off chance that a waiter or waitress passed by, we politely asked to get a bill. This happened 4 times before someone actually brought one. We paid and left, and had to look around to ask if what we just experienced was even real. The customer service was horrendous. Without a doubt one of the worst restaurants I've ever been to, I could have turned this review into a novel and they still wouldn't have brought...

From start to finish, the service was exceptionally slow, and what was even more frustrating was the complete lack of concern from the staff. There was no sense of urgency or accountability. I ordered a Halloumi Burger, small fish and chips, and three oysters. The burger arrived completely dry — no sauce in the bun whatsoever — making it quite unappetizing. As for the fish and chips, the tartare sauce and mushy peas were missing, and I had to specifically ask for them, which shouldn’t be the case for such a standard dish. The only item that initially seemed promising was the apple pie, but that quickly turned into disappointment as well. It was served partially frozen in the middle. When I pointed this out, rather than the staff taking the dish back themselves, I was told to bring it over — which I found completely unacceptable. Asking a paying customer to return their own dish in a sit-down restaurant shows a serious lack of basic service etiquette. Overall, this was a deeply disappointing experience. The food was poorly executed, and the service was inattentive and unprofessional. The staff clearly require proper training. I will not be returning and wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone.

GG was recommended by the staff of the castle and we don't regret choosing this as our lunch destination from a million chip shops in a sea-side city on a stormy day! Fresh food, the restaurant takes advantage of being located by the harbour. We were pre-settled to taste their fish 'n chips and totally missed the fish cake and lobster dishes. However, the batter fried calamari was brilliant as well. The chips felt a bit soggy and burnt, but hey it's ok. The medium fish we ordered was quite large in reality! Haddocks/cods are accompanied by green peas/mushy peas/beans/gravy/curry sauce. Salt and pepper pots need to be cleaned as they remained clogged. You won't find the tarter sauce on the menu, but yes, they will come upon request. The ambience will make you time travel to a '90s vintage busy eatery with all the wooden furniture and paintings. The service won't let you occupy a preferable sea-view window table if you are not more than four persons. The service was pleasant though. We stayed here for about a couple of hours, spent a brilliant family time as other families with kids and friends were around as well. Should have taken a lobster damn it. I wonder if they had soup of the day.
