Returned from Bournemouth back home to London last night. Spent couple nights with wife and our 3 kids to enjoy the town, seaside and local cuisine. My wife found this lovely Bengali Sylet restaurant and we dined there Wednesday evening and our family had an extremely wonderful experience. Staff were friendly and I got to know the host - Emon (I think that was the name), a young 22yr old Bangladeshi who told me Khaya opened 3 months ago. The atmosphere was great. Nice decor. Food arrived in timely manner. I'm actually Bengali heritage and my wife is north Indian from Lucknow, so we have good knowledge of authentic tasty North Indian cuisine. We were impressed with the meal we ordered - rice pilau, butter naan, saag aloo, tarka daal, chicken tikka and chicken korma. Plus complimentary poppadom and 2 portions chips for our youngest. I'm sure any other dish would have been equally mouth watering. As a family, I was pleased to see there was no alcohol served here and the atmosphere maintained a peace and tranquility. I bid Khaya much success for its future. It's a young hospitable staff serving authentic tasty Bengali cuisine in lovely surroundings. Next time we return Bournemouth will revisit Khaya. Hope Emon still there to host us. 😁 Good luck 🤞👍👋 Dr...
Read moreWe visited Bournemouth for a couple of nights and decided to try Khaya. We ordered poppadoms, lamb shank and a Kala gosht with plain rice and sylethi salad.
The lamb shank was the best I’ve had in a while. The sauce it came with was so flavourful and the meat so tender and falling of the bone. The Kala gosht was even more delicious! The succulent pieces of meat and a gorgeous thick sauce/gravy had me going for me even thought I was stuffed!
Aside from the delicious food, the service was amazing and I absolutely loved the branding and look of the place. The name is genius and the colour-way sophisticated. I adore the fact that they have an authentic Bangladeshi menu with items such as “Bibi’s chicken curry” and “nana’s lamb curry” with sylethi salad. So much thought has gone into bringing the authentic Bangladeshi heritage and I absolutely appreciated this.
I highly recommend this place if you’re in Bournemouth and want a delicious hearty meal with great service, bringing the amazing taste of Bangaldesh!
I only managed to get a photo of my lamb shank as we couldn’t...
Read moreThe service was non-existent, and it took over an hour and more for our food to arrive. We asked for water on five occasions, and when it finally arrived, it was a glass for just one person out of the three people sitting at the table. We asked for a chutney twice. That also didn’t arrive. It’s a shame, because when the food finally did make an appearance, it was authentic and delicious but the service was completely fragmented. We wanted to leave having waited over an hour, the only thing holding us back is that we’d still have to wait another 20m to be served at another restaurant. Left no time to grab a dessert as the food arrived around 9:40pm, and all the dessert shops had closed by then. I was also waiting at the counter to pay them for a good few minutes. Did not pay the full amount given how poor the...
