We had such a good time this August. It was my third time in Brighton and honestly the city just never disappoints. Every visit feels a little different because there is always something new to see or do. This time I was with a couple of friends from uni and we had spent the whole day walking around, exploring some of the sights, checking out a few shops, and just soaking up that Brighton atmosphere. After a while we started to feel properly tired and a bit hungry, so we decided to stop somewhere for food. We were not really planning anything in advance, just going with the flow. That is when we randomly came across this restaurant, and what a lucky find that turned out to be. From the moment we walked in it had a good vibe. The place was busy but in the best possible way, the kind of buzz that makes you think straight away, ah this is where people want to be. Even before we tasted anything, we all had a feeling it was going to be a great choice. We had to wait a little for a table but honestly that only added to the excitement because you could see how smoothly everything was running and how much fun people were having. Now the food. Wow. I cannot even explain how much we enjoyed it. I ordered the beef rendang and it was absolutely spot on, so tender and full of flavour. It had that proper slow cooked richness where you can taste all the spices coming together perfectly. My friends went for sushi and we decided to share the moonlight platter. That platter was something else. It looked incredible when it arrived and tasted even better. It was generous, fresh, and honestly a proper feast. We were all just looking at each other like, how did we stumble into this place by chance. It felt like hitting the jackpot. Every bite was a treat and we ended up passing things around the table just so we could all taste everything. The whole atmosphere made it even better. The service was lovely, everyone was so welcoming and friendly, and you could tell the staff actually cared about making sure people were having a good time. The ambience was spot on too. It was lively without being too loud, stylish but not trying too hard, and comfortable enough to just relax and enjoy the evening. The music really surprised me because they were playing some of my favourite songs. It almost felt like they had made a playlist just for me, which gave the evening this funny personal touch. One thing that really stood out was how many celebrations were going on around us. In just one evening I saw so many birthdays being celebrated. Everywhere you looked there were people smiling, laughing, singing happy birthday, and even chatting between tables. It created such a joyful atmosphere. It did not feel like a restaurant where you just sit, eat and leave. It felt like being part of one big party, except in a cosy and welcoming way. Honestly, it felt like a home away from home, the kind of place you would happily go back to again and again because you know it will be fun every time. By the end of the night we were all saying the same thing — that we were so glad we found it. What started as us just wandering around looking for food turned into one of the highlights of the trip. The combination of generous and delicious food, the warm service, the relaxed but buzzing atmosphere, the music and the people around us made it one of those evenings you do not forget. Brighton has a lot of amazing places but this one really stood out. It captured everything I love about the city — the friendliness, the energy, the variety and the way it makes you feel at home even when you are just passing through. I will definitely be recommending it to anyone who comes to Brighton and there is no doubt in my mind that next time I am here I will be heading straight back.

I had such a wonderful time at this restaurant and really want to leave a proper note of thanks. From the very beginning the whole experience was a pleasure. The food was outstanding and every single dish we tried was full of flavour, beautifully presented and clearly made with a lot of care. What stood out most of all was the staff. They did more than serve the food, they created a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Everyone seemed to be working together as a true team, which gave the place such a positive and friendly energy. I came to Brighton with a few of my university friends for a short trip to enjoy the seaside and explore the city. We discovered this restaurant by chance while wandering about and it turned out to be one of the best decisions we made all day. Although the restaurant was very busy, which speaks for itself in terms of popularity, everything ran smoothly and we felt looked after the whole time. The short wait was absolutely worth it because once we were seated we could see why it is such a popular spot. The décor is stylish without being over the top, the atmosphere is relaxed but lively, and it felt like exactly the sort of place you would happily spend an evening with friends. I would like to give particular thanks to Lyna and Sarah, who were so kind and helpful throughout. They took the time to make us feel welcome and added that personal touch which makes such a difference. They also reminded me that Brighton is not only about the beach but about the people you meet, the food you enjoy and the memories you make. For me that is exactly what this meal represented. As for the food, we tried a wide variety and enjoyed every single dish. We ordered the dragon roll, the spider roll, a rich and aromatic fish curry, a comforting chicken katsu curry and the Korean fried tofu. Each one was delicious in its own way, made with fresh ingredients and a great balance of flavours, and the portions were generous. It felt like taking a small culinary journey across the Far East as we compared dishes and shared bites around the table. By the end of the evening we were all saying how glad we were to have found this place. It was a meal that leaves a lasting impression not only because of the food but also because of the whole experience. I will be recommending it to anyone visiting Brighton and I will be very happy to return myself next time I am in the area.

An experience to remember, though we wish we didnt. Six of us decided to go here for a friends birthday, admittedly we showed up at Lunch hoping to get a Dinner reservation. We were told there wasn't any till past 8, but no worries that's more than acceptable, right? And so we waited. After a two hour wait, we return. Not to the welcoming warm and inviting atmosphere we saw upstairs, no. Instead we entered a basement of all places. A bleached aroma, sterile lit and segregated downstairs section of the restaurant. The birthday girl went upstairs to talk to management to see if anything could be done, she was met with a hand in her face. On top of dismissive staff pointing her towards who I can only assume was the shift manager for the night. The option of takeaway was suggested, he without much thought refused, despite deliveroo offering the restaurants takeaway service. Our group quickly changed our minds upon hearing this and headed for the door. But, as we exited our conversation with staff continued outside. We gave our honest opinions of being tucked in the basement next to the toilets to eat as well as the overall staff treatment. And brought up if we had known our option of dining environment would be so sub par we would've thanked them for their time but ate elsewhere. After some back and forth, there was a passing mention of a table maybe clearing up within the hour (in addition to the time we had already waited), and with us asking how busy the kitchen might be and when our food would likely be out, we received a patronising "this isn't McDonalds, Darling" as a response. Overall, a shameful experience with a restaurant we were looking forward to dining at, on what should’ve been a happy night. We understand there's a lot of pressure and stress that comes with public facing roles, especially the service industry. So, take this with a grain of salt. But, this demeanour did put a damper on our night. We'd advise being prepared for maybe receiving such service if you dine here.

Really disappointed with our visit to moonlight. We attended on the 1st of February for my sisters birthday.

It started with us being told they didn’t have our booking down anywhere, despite the fact I had booked it two weeks in advance and having multiple emails sent to me to remind me of my ‘booking’. We were told to come back and they would sort out a table for us. They managed to squeeze us in at the back of the restaurant, round the corner. This wasn’t a very nice place to sit as we felt isolated from the rest of the resturant and also it was next to the loo that didn’t have a pleasant smell. However we decided to stay. It was a Saturday night and everywhere was busy.

We ordered drinks and they came out fairly quickly, my brother had ordered an iced matcha for his drink. When the drinks came out and my brother had a sip of his drink he realised they had given him the strawberry iced matcha. My brother is allergic to strawberries, this was obviously not what he had ordered. It was over 30 minutes before we were able to get attention from any staff to tell them they had given us the wrong drink and explain he had an allergy to strawberries. The waitress apologised and got him another drink. All this time we still hadn’t even ordered food. By the time the drink was sorted we had been sat down at our table for around an hour and no food had been ordered. We were getting hungry.

We finally were able to order our food. We ordered two sets of sushi (avocado maki and dragon roll), chicken karage and come prawn crackers to start. Then we all ordered a main each, two teriyaki dishes and one massaman curry. Again this took a very long time to come out. it all arrived together.

The sushi was lovely, however the chicken karaage was just like chicken nuggets, nothing special. The teriyaki dishes were ok… the beef was quite tough and the duck was quite fatty. My massaman curry was terrible, watery with hardly any flavour and hardly any chicken at all, Just a lot of courgette. No potato like stated on the menu.

Once we had eaten we were again left sitting with our plates, by this time we were fed up so decided to go straight up to the till to pay as we didn’t want to wait any longer.

Looking back I wish I had made it clear how unhappy with our experience we were. We were not offered anything for the poor service. Just a “thankyou for bearing with us tonight” almost £100 later and I left feeling extremely disappointed and unhappy that this was my sisters...
