The Wee Bar — Restaurant in Scotland

We stumbled upon Wee Bar on our first evening in Inverness, arriving without a reservation and not quite sure what to expect. While other places nearby turned us away, the team at Wee Bar warmly welcomed us, accommodating us between two reservations and offering a cozy, lounge-like space that immediately made us feel at ease.

Only later did we learn they were short-staffed, with just one server managing the floor, assisted occasionally by staff from the restaurant downstairs. Despite that, the service was seamless. Drinks and appetizers arrived promptly and with a genuine smile.

A special shoutout goes to their willingness to go the extra mile—when we requested a hot toddy for my wife, they happily made a custom one just for her. That may not sound like much, but in contrast, other pubs nearby simply declined. It’s this kind of “can-do” attitude that truly makes a place stand out.

Our appetizers were just what we needed to kick off the evening: a delicious charcuterie plate with meats and cheeses, perfectly crispy onion rings, rich and flavorful garlic mushrooms, and a fresh bread basket. Everything was beautifully presented and full of flavor.

THE BEST BAR IN INVERNESS! My wife and I were visiting Inverness from Melbourne and noticed initially that the bar was not going to be open during our stay (which was mid-week). A few emails back and forth with Cameron, he kindly offered to open the bar on a day that we were going to be there! Afterwards, he replied again letting us know that the bar would be open as he had been running folk music nights and we were more than welcome to hang around for the acts. This turned out to be our BEST night while in Inverness. And the food and selection of drinks!!! The meat and cheese platters were INCREDIBLE and his cocktails were out of this world! We were already seated when a staff member asked us to move and wait—standing in front of the entire bar—so they could wipe down another table. It was awkward and unnecessary, and left us feeling quite embarrassed. Once we were eventually seated again, it took a long time for our order to be taken, and the atmosphere just felt uncomfortable from then on.

Good customer service should make guests feel welcome and relaxed, not singled out. Even if staff are under pressure, it’s important that it doesn’t show — unfortunately, that wasn’t the case during our visit. Overall, a disappointing experience and not somewhere...
