Real Patisserie Church Road — Restaurant in Great Britain

I used to really look forward to getting my morning pastry from here whenever I visited family in Hove. Had a very disappointing experience yesterday when my husband enquired about a nut free pastry for me- they declared they “do not use different tongs” for pastries whether they are made with nuts or not. I work in the food industry and this is very much against Food Saftey standards. I understand most establishments need to express some sort of cross contamination concern but since new laws around allergies have been brought in I have not experienced such outdated practices.

EDIT- In response to your reply I understand that you cannot state that anything is 100% nut free. Every kitchen I have ever worked in as a Pastry Chef has been mindful of cross contamination even though they could not legally guarantee any produce was allergen free. I am lucky enough to be able to consume food that has been made in an environment where nuts are present however I can't eat something that has been fully handled with tongs that have been used for pastries containing nuts. Used to be pretty average as over priced bakeries go, however it seems to have really gone down hill over the last 6 months. The staff seem so miserable and irritated by your presence the second you walk through the door. There is a young-ish man who is SO rude and disrespectful. The other staff are not quite as rude as him, mostly just vacant and spaced out. The ridiculously over priced tiny sandwiches don't go any way towards making up for the terrible atmosphere. The often visible flies who appear to live permanently on the cake counter are probably the only beings having a good time in there. Love real Patisserie but... Sadly had to ring up and complain my baguette was totally stale only one side of the baguette buttered Hardly any filling in side either . I was also very shocked the staff are not wearing masks nor they wearing gloves to serve food behind the counter informed me they only have to use tongs to serve the food . They have offered me a refund . In hindsight I wonder when they’re preparing the food if they wear gloves or masks very sad state of affairs when restaurants everywhere...
