I have a long relationship with Social Bite, with a fair share of ups and downs.
To start, all of the staff are usually very friendly and helpful, they always have good soups in and their coffee is nice. However, you are only able to enjoy the soup if they have any in! On too many occasions have I walked over for lunch at 1:05pm and they are already out of maybe one of the soups, maybe both! The latter is unusual, but if you are running out of soup by 1pm something isn't working.
They don't have a huge selection of panini/sandwiches, but I would recommend the chicken w/pesto mayo, spring onion and rocket panini, they use delicious bread and you can get it in a meal deal with soup for £5.45. On its own, £3.50 - quite expensive, and again I have been a few times at lunch when it is already sold out. They also do hot meals which I haven't tried, but they seem to be too expensive for the amount of food you get.
Overall I would give 3 stars. I understand that Social Bite is more of a social enterprise which benefits homeless people rather than a moneymaking business, but they still need to make sure they are getting in enough food for a lunch time. Sometimes if busy, their service is slow and a bit unorganised, with servers not knowing who's food is who's, and it could be better value, but again, it is benefitting the homeless so I don't have an issue with the pricing, and generally their food is of good quality, so I would recommend, but I would also recommend many improvements that...
Read moreThis is an incredibly inspiring place. Just being in here and having a lovely coffee and pastry I was helping homeless people. In addition you can donate into a pot so that homeless people can come in and ask for a coffee and food for takeaway (no charge). They also close the shop Weds eve and invite homeless people into enjoy a meal. Pets allowed.
Great space. So welcoming. Lovely staff that believe in giving customers like me great service and equally ensuring homeless people that come in are given food, time and respect.
So inspiring. They not only offer food and drink and somewhere for people to meet they help people with projects on employment and outreach.
I could never go to another cafe when one of these is around. Giving to corporate pockets or homeless? Social always for me...
Read morefront of the shop says download app get a free coffee and when we went in the lady explained it was actually the tenth coffee you get free. that didn’t bother me but a comment the man working made who seemed to look like the manager made me feel so uncomfortable and guilty i ended up buying an overpriced drink i didn’t want out of shame. next time someone comes in maybe it’s best not saying “well you don’t just walk in and expect everything for free in life” he was extremely unprofessional and almost bullying you for a simple mistake. change the sign outside to say get the app and get your 10th coffee free instead of ridiculing people who get confused by it. never recommended this place to anyone i would actually tell people to avoid this shop...
