What a difference a day makes..we visited on Friday 12th in the afternoon. I was raving about how friendly the staff were to a friend that lives in Brighton. The manager was superb, I think his name was Mark, he told me he had been at the pub for years. Great host. We had our dog Bilaey with us and all the staff.were so gentle with him. He is blind and deaf
We dropped in again today, Saturday 13th. Totally different vibe and atmosphere. I was kind of ignored at the bar, the bar staff served two other people that had come in after me. Heh this happens. We had a drink and then my wife had an appointment so I went for a walk and arranged to meet her at was becoming our favourite pub in Brighton.
There were no other people at the bar. I waited and asked for a beer and was told it would be better if I sat down! I said OK will you come and serve at the table and was told in no uncertain terms that she had four other things to sort out and only has one pair of hands...not sure what had illicited that response! I spoke to a manager who told me he was the General Manager and Mark was the assistant. I just pointed out that there was quite a difference in the friendliness and attitude. To be honest he didn't seem that bothered. I guess my face didn't fit. I won't be going back. Shame, Customer service seems to be so inconsistent. Not witnessed anything quite like...
Read moreCame to The Dorset yesterday (3/8/20) with my girlfriend for an early birthday lunch. It was sunny and most people were sat outside. We however decided to sit inside and were seated by a smiley, friendly and informative Phoebe, who introduced herself and ran us through the menu and Help Out to Eat Out scheme. She left us to decide and things began to go downhill from there..Phoebe was shouted at by a man I assume was her manager for 4 or 5 different things. When she tried to explain he yelled ‘no replying...NO REPLYING!’ He then went on to speak loudly and openly to other staff about how she was doing his head in etc and it was evident that she just couldn’t do anything right in his eyes. He went on to complain about other customers and created an altogether quite uncomfortable experience for us. We may have been the only two diners inside the pub, but it was like we weren’t there at all. I appreciate it’s a difficult and stressful time to get back to work for everyone and having to wear masks and adhere to all new restrictions and EOTHO scheme, but I just felt sorry for the poor girl effectively being bullied at work, as she was spoken to in a manner I found unacceptable..everything else was brilliant, the food was spot on and the Dorset always has a great selection of craft beers, Gins and wide choice of options to eat (I recommend the...
Read moreManager was horrible to my daughter and me. We'd previously been to Nero's to buy her a toastie for her lunch, but by the time it was ready she'd fallen asleep. So my wife and i thought we'd take the opportunity to have a rare pint together. We stumbled across the dorset which looked nice and cosy.. Anyway about an hour later our daughter woke up so we broke up the toastie into pieces and lay them on the paper bag for her to eat.
A few minutes later, the manager came and asked if we were eating the toastie, then he realised it was for the toddler and announced that there is a kids menu. I tried explaining that we had already bought two pints and was going to explain the situation. But he walked off three words into my sentence. In the end my daughter didn't eat it as it was too cold for her. I explained the situation to a nice waitress who was willing to actually listen to what I had to say and she apologised on his behalf! We just left half way through our second pint. We were going to recommend meeting with our friends for dinner there in the evening, but obviously didn't. If you're wondering what he looks like so that you can avoid him. He's the guy dressed straight out...
