Disgustingly expensive.
£3.50 for half a dozen eggs when the same product from the same farm costs £2.50 elsewhere.
£5.50 for a kilo of courgettes.
Genuinely staggering and insulting that somewhere that claims to be ethical would exploit people's guilt and good nature. If you're a posh toff then I'm sure you'll love it.
You're not helping the planet if the only people who can afford to shop here are the most polluting class. Horrendous.
Edit:
You've completely ignored the part where the same eggs from the SAME FARM are 30% cheaper elsewhere. A dozen free range organic eggs from Sainsbury's are £4.50. Your eggs are almost twice as expensive, so spare me the platitudes. If fair prices are at the heart of what you do, then stop price gouging.
It would be better for the planet for you to not stock courgettes at all. Charging a ludicrous amount for vegetables doesn't erase their carbon footprint. I also note that non-organic courgettes were on sale for significantly cheaper. Presumably you are exploiting those that grew them?
Nothing in the shop is good value for money. The only people who can afford to shop here are the wealthy, who pollute more than anyone by orders of magnitude. You say you'd "hate" for people to feel excluded from eating ethically, but all of your prices do exactly that.
Eating ethically shouldn't have to be a matter of class but you are reinforcing that. No mind though, so long as you get to be in a co-op and feel good about yourselves. What a joke.
Thankfully, there are ethical outlets in Brighton that don't engage in price-gouging. You're right in that there's a better way to shop, it's elsewhere.
I will not be coming back to have a "chat" with you seeing as your response to me is filled with boring platitudes and...
Read moreI have visited this shop numerous times while in Brighton and I normally spend a fortune in here before heading back home on the train. The layout is pretty good, if the shop is very busy, one can still browse around and the queues at the checkout are well managed. My only criticism is that the selection of Vegan fresh products was very good, I found here cheese Brands I could only source online and they had a nice selection of new products, like mock beef, tuna and bacon. Today I discovered that most of them have been discontinued, "they didn't sell" I was told by Staff, and I am gutted for it. I can still order what I was buying, at least some of the products, but I have to ring the Store a week before I come by, I might try that but I don't think it's going to be practical for me, because I only visit for one day each time... Shame, I really thought I found my regular Vegan supplier and the prices were very reasonable. The rest of the stock - pasta, sauces, confectionery, dry food and beauty - is also good, some things a bit overpriced but overall the shop caters for all budgets. They had a small Cafe which sadly has closed down, food was awesome there. There is a Bakery inside the Store and it proves really popular but I can't buy bread from self service counters, I worked in Retail for too long and I know how people...
Read moreExcellent range, products, nice bakery section, only their cucumbers are bad (soft) and the prices are steep but what the heck, you pay for quality. Why then am I'm giving one star only? Apparently there are no bosses there, it's some sort of a collective where everyone is the boss. 95% of the time these people are nice and helpful but some times you are been served attitude along with your groceries that make you miss the politeness at places like sainsburys. Examples: I gave less money at the counter by mistake and only realized when an angry voice alerted me, while you are trying to make up your mind whether to buy this or that product you might see hands popping right in front of your face to do the necessary restocking, choosing today's sandwiches instead of yesterday's can make a member of the staff curse while walking away, sometimes you ask the wrong person and you know they are making staff up so you have to find someone else, carefully, to get the right information and oh my god, once I've been barked at their cafe (separate premises) that my order was ready. That was chilling and scary. Although these occurrences don't happen often I'd rather they didn't happen at all. They deserve 4 stars but I give them one hoping to get their attention. With new competition in the area they should up their game a...
