My first visit today. The lack of food for a place labelled as "bar and kitchen" was disappointing, maybe they opened too soon before the kitchen was ready? There was only a selection of 3 cakes on offer. I chose the jam and cream scones and sadly the scones were dry, bordering on stale. The Welsh brand of clotted cream was lovely though. I'm not vegan but always have oat milk in a latte for a creamier yet healthier option (despite having clotted cream on a scone haha) and their selection of milks was really good. An oatmilk latte with an extra shot of coffee is £4 here and the cup size is more than adequate (they don't do the oversized cups that the big chains do, which is fine by me) and water is available to help yourself. The lady serving me was friendly and helpful and chatty. I couldn't fault her service. I was disappointed that there was no public WiFi and I didn't see any power charging points, so anyone wishing to use a laptop here would struggle... They will have to stick to the other chains of coffee shops in the city. The venue is clean, the table clearing service from the staff was prompt, the décor is smart and modern, it's a light and airy café and after the kitchen is fully up and running, I'll likely return, but more clear menús and pricing will be required. Overall, a pleasant experience but some improvements...
Read moreOverall a very nice atmosphere suitable for the new area as a whole. Price range is okay in my opinion, on the average side which is to be expected from a place which is focusing on staying green.
The waiting time for two coffees was only a slight bit longer than it should be, but there were a few big orders ahead of us and one of the staff members seems to be a beginner, so that's more than understandable.
As a little practical advice, I'd put a small bin near the area where people add sugar to their coffees, it would save a lot of hassle for both staff and customers who feel bad for putting rubbish on the bar.
Staffs' attitude was very nice though, served with a smile and felt like my custom was appreciated. (Good luck to the staff member in training, you're doing great!)
The biggest drawback for me, and in my opinion something that should be rectified as soon as possible, is the lack of any kind of menu anywhere. Also seeing as the tags by the cakes they offer are without price, the menus should definitely include them later on when they're introduced.
I'm interested to try their hot food once the kitchen is fully open for business and I'll update my review once...
Read moreUpon ordering we were told 45 mins for food which then took an hour and 10 to come and only because we queried how much longer it would be. We were told it was because we had moved inside and no one had told the kitchen. We informed them when we moved, and they also managed to bring us two sets of drinks in that time so knew that was inaccurate. It was very clear they had forgotten about our order, as had that also been true we would have seen them walking around outside looking for us. We were then told it was being ‘plated up’ and yet we waited a further 7 mins and saw the pancake batter hitting the pan from our seats. No offer of complimentary drinks or some money back. The wait time was annoying yes, but the fact we were told barefaced lies is what frustrated us; we would rather they just said, “we messed up”. If your kitchen cannot cope with the amount of orders, just hold the food orders for 15/20 mins until you catch up. We saw another table complaining and also saw food being brought out to another table and then not being provided with cutlery. Some training to do be done, which is a shame as the food was pretty good (bar my overcooked...
