Having finally recovered from the loss of Maxi's Restaurant I thought I'd give the Rotisserie a go for lunch. The first thing you notice is how "real" it all feels, this isn't some gentrified food truck, it has a really authentic feel from the moment you see the menu to walking in.
Service is friendly from the off, I went for the soy chicken with rice as an intro to the place and once ordered it came quickly and looked great.
There's not a lot of room to stand and wait inside and you're constantly moving to let people by, alternatively you can step outside into the market area and await the buzz from the little plastic disc.
The meal wasn't exactly brimming with extreme flavours (it was ordered knowing this would be the case) but was well cooked and the chicken nice and tender. The only downside being the bones, had it been left whole it would have been fine but because it's chopped you get a lot of bone fragments and it's harder to get all the meat.

The simple but amazing things I love about maxis rotisserie is the generous portions, tasty meats (the duck beats any roast duck in Leeds, roast pork belly is also super crispy and cha siu which I liked the least but was still good), you then get unlimited scallion ginger oil and chilli oil too to your liking.
Loads of people visit here even locals so not just fellow Asian customers so you know the word has been passed around about how great maxis is. Service is also friendly too and they work so quickly so the queue tends to not take too long.
Looking forward to visit maxis again and try different dishes as I heard the beef brisket is good too.

Read moreHidden in a corner of Kirkgate Market, specializes in Hong Kong style roast meats. It’s a simple self-service setup, order and pay first (cash only), then find your own seat and grab cutlery. Prices are reasonable for the UK: roast meat rice £9.80, two/three meat combo £11, and a quarter roast duck £10.50.
Food comes in takeaway boxes with generous portions. The rice is plentiful and filling. The roast duck is the highlight, crispy skin, tender meat, and flavorful duck fat that makes it really delicious. The roast pork belly is also good, with crunchy skin and a nice fat-to-lean balance. The char siu is decent, nothing exceptional.
Overall, if you’re in Leeds and craving Hong Kong style roast meats, this is worth a visit. The roast duck is especially...
