As I live close to Hyde Park corner & drive through the main junction often I saw that Ornaise Cafe had closed & something was in the process of getting ready to trade, next I saw the new signage going up so had a better clue what was due to be opening up in it's place. I have been a regular of the other Hyde Park Greek style food outlets that was Mythos and Little Athens for a while now I was keen to try this new kid on the block serving up Greek street food style & a tasty Gyros is a favourite of mine as I holiday to Kefalonia because my brother owns a house there & I would like to think I know decent Greek street food when I taste it as Argostoli the main town on the island has an abundance of very good street food outlets serving up the usual suspects found on UK Greek street food menus.
As this new place has been open a few weeks now it would be settled in so I decided to go check it out with my half Greek Cypriot good pal JJ who reckons he's the Leeds authority on Greek scran (note I said half🤣).
The decor and layout is nice & chilled and extremely clean and tidy, the seating area was full and no tables were free so we chilled near the service area and had a look at the menu for what was available, the open plan kitchen lets you see what's going on and see your order being prepared on the grill.
We went to sit down at a table that had now become available and after making up our minds I then went to order at the counter. I opted for the full mixed grill box and a cherry beverage and JJ chose the Pork Gyros with a Coke Zero. The bill came to just shy of 30 quid which at first seemed a little bit on the pricey side. After around a 15 minute wait our food arrived at our table brought by the friendly young lady who was polite and courteous, I was incredibly happy with what I was presented with, the meat was plentiful and the salad looked fresh and vibrant. I went straight in for the chicken souvlaki and couldn't believe the taste and texture, it had that great chargrilled aroma and taste, was tender and perfect seasoned and cooked, the meat was not at all dry and rubbery, it was 100% the best skewered bit of chicken I've had outside of Greece so I couldn't wait to get stuck in to the rest, the pork skewer was more of the same, tasty and succulent with perfect herby flavours. Whilst there was only 1 lamb chop it was indeed another winner, juicy and bursting with flavours. The absolute delight of the platter was the Greek sausage, it didn't state if it was wild boar but regardless of what it was it was a damn good bit of sausage indeed! The oregano fries were oregano fries but perfectly cooked and crispy with no signs of stale cooking oils etc that you get in some places, they were top notch I guess.
JJ reported the Pork Gyros was also banging and had no complaints.
The portion sizes were ample so absolutely made up for the 30 quid I paid, I was most definitely satisfied with the scan and I would wholeheartedly recommend this new place over Mythos, sorry guys this is now going to be my go-to greek spot.
Oh and the pot of Tzatziki was banging too, fresh to death.
If you love Gyros etc then get your arse to The Med, my recommendation for hands down the most fantastic food in Leeds for...
Read moreIf you’re looking for a spot that delivers on flavor, value, and quality, The Med Greek Street Food is a must-visit. The food is absolutely delicious — every bite is packed with authentic Mediterranean flavor, and you can really taste the freshness of the ingredients.
The portions are generous, making it a great choice whether you’re super hungry or just love leftovers. Despite the big servings and top-notch quality, the prices are surprisingly reasonable. It’s rare to find a place that offers such great value without compromising on taste or freshness.
From the juicy grilled meats to the crisp veggies and warm, fluffy pita, everything is made to impress. Highly recommend for anyone craving satisfying, flavorful street food with a...
Read more⏱️Food was around a 25-30 minute wait. A little slow considering we were the only 2 people in the shop. But understandable as the majority of the platter was “grilled”. 💰£15-20/ pp. It costed just under £20 for the mixed grilled platter/ box which contained 4 skewers, 2 cut up pitta breads, 1 sausage, a pinch of salad which was mainly onion, a handful of chips and a small side of tzatziki.
✅ The chicken piece skewers and minced meat skewers were tasty and would recommend ✅❌The tzatziki paired well with the food but there wasn’t enough of it for the size of the platter ✅❌The lamb tasted good but one of the chops we got was probably 70% bone and 30% meat.
❤️Would visit again but get a wrap or something else to avoid being...
