Having seen this all over social media, and being in Liverpool for the Champions League match later tonight, I decided to give it a go.
I arrived at 12.46pm and was out the door by 12.54pm. The queue wasn't huge, but was constant. All tables inside were occupied as well.
I went for garlic butter, cheese, crispy onions and jalapeño. I don't like beans or tuna on jacket potatoes, so I went for a relatively basic option. But there are various options to make it in a way that suits your own tastes.
The potato was well cooked, a decent amount of cheese. The inside of the potato was fluffy and the skin was pretty crisp. If I wanted to pick on something, the skin could have been a bit crispier. But overall, I enjoyed my spud.
It can get expensive if you are going for meaty toppings, but it is all optional, and it is then more filling if you do that. So you get what you pay for. The menu board is very transparent with pricing. It doesn't have to cost £30 for 2. Mine came in at around the £8 mark.
Ultimately, yes it is just a potato. But it takes a very long time to make a good one at home! For what I got, I think it was decent value for money.
The novelty may wear off, but from what I have seen on social media, the brothers have great ambition and entrepreneurship, and I have no doubt they will adapt and improve and learn as they go.
Is it worth a visit? Based on my experience, yes. Would I go again? It won't be a religious stop for me every week, but I would go again for sure. Would I recommend it? Again it is a yes.
I would like to see cash being accepted. That is a misjudgement I think, and some of the people of Liverpool would like cash as an option. So I hope they take that feedback onboard and adjust their policies.
In a World full of negativity and everyone shooting people down, more kindness doesn't go amiss. I wish the brothers and their team well. It's great to see 2 northern lads doing well for themselves and I hope others also give them...
Read moreI’d been craving a proper baked potato for what feels like forever, and SpudBros Express Liverpool really hit the spot. This was my first time trying one of their spuds, and honestly, it blew anything I’ve made at home out of the water. Up until now, my baked potato game has been strictly home-cooked, but after this, I’ve got a few new ideas for how to step things up.
It’s not the cheapest lunch you’ll find, and I reckon part of the hype comes from the two brothers’ brilliant social media presence. But fair play to them – the quality is spot-on, and you can tell they genuinely care about the place. I actually spotted Jacob and Harley in the shop when I went. They weren’t just standing around either – they were helping out, keeping things organised, and making sure everything was running smoothly. That kind of hands-on approach gets a lot of respect from me.
Ordering works a bit like Subway. First, you pick your butter – normal or garlic (garlic butter for me, obviously). Then you choose your toppings – I went for Garlic Chilli Chicken and cheese. After that, it’s sauces and extras; I picked their Tram Sauce and some crispy onions. I loved that the cheese went on first so it melted right into the potato – makes it so much creamier.
It was their first weekend open, so I was bracing myself for a massive queue, but it wasn’t too bad at all. The staff were friendly, quick, and seemed to have everything under control. There’s a small seating area inside, but not loads, so if it’s busy you might have to take your food away. I also noticed they had security, which is probably a smart move with the crowds they’re pulling in.
If I’m being picky, the only things that would make it a full-on 5-star for me would be slightly lower prices, more indoor seating, and shorter waits at peak times. But honestly? I’ll definitely be back. This place has just made my Liverpool...
Read more8.50 for a spud is outrageous I understand that you have expensive overheads but I can go about 10 minutes up the road to John the spud and get one full of FRESH HOT toppings for £4 and yes I’ve read your other responses about your overheads and that we can’t compare a food truck to a restraunt and yes whilst that is true it is you guys who have picked to open stores with expensive overheads instead when at the end of the day it is only a jacket spud. Also when I visited it seemed most of your staff are uninterested and are just there because it’s a job also none of your fillings are hot or served with any bit of love what so ever where as when I visited John the spud all of his fillings are piping hot and he has passion for his business as he is the owner and has to make it work to make a living where your staff just work for you for minimum wage so the drive isn’t there , granted you guys have passion and love for what you do but that’s where it ends and yes you can go on all day about comparisons between a shop and a food truck but at the end of the day both of you essentially sell a spud and that’s it me personally I would not open a store with huge overheads when alls we sell is spuds it doesn’t make sense to charge 8:50 for a spuds it’s simply not worth that what so ever and I know you will hit me up with another generated response to my complaint but everyone sees...
