Normally (with my wife being coeliac) totally gluten free for health reasons I have always raved about this place in the past, this time it seemed different. It was rammed, chaotic, hot (but you can't help the weather) felt grubby and the takeaway was dimmly lit no sign of hair nets. (I used to run a Harry Ramsdens) The chef was getting very stressed it showed and his mutterings didn't go unnoticed by myself. Ordering took a while but that was to be expected. That wait for food, again, was commensurate with the level of business. Prices are competitive for fish and chips (especially gluten free) but there is a big lack of specials on the menu... So finally the food I had (not gf) sausage chips and gravy and it was lovely although the chips were a bit pale for my taste the gravy was delicious but slightly runny. Gluten free cooked to order in separate frier. Curry sauce was fine, chips pale but ok, and the fish was undercooked. Batter was doughy on the inside and fish pink and cool in places. (Obviously cook for time and sight, not time and internal temperature) I complained they offered another fish straight away but by this point my wife was put off her food so they refunded with no hesitation. (Hence the 5* for service) Sadly Barnacles may no longer be our go too gluten free chippy in...

Been here twice, the first time was a few years ago. The decor has been updated and the menu altered, but they still offer a huge range of food including gluten free and vegan options. This latest visit was on an extremely hot day and the cafe was packed. The staff did incredibly well considering and the service was quick and the food was lovely and hot. Sadly our vegan burgers were delivered on a wooden board with the chips in a metal basket - I realise this seems to be popular but it sort of takes the comfort/relaxing element out of eating in a cafe. The young man who served us was friendly but didn't seem to know the menu very well, I assume he was new. Offer several vegan dessert choices which is fantastic! We had the ice cream sundae. The toilets could do with updating but they are perfectly functional. There was no disabled facilities and the tables were positioned very close together so moving a wheelchair inside would...

Huge separate menu for vegans 🙌 i visit here pretty much every time I'm in llandudno! Chips are super fresh and tasty, great value for money and the fact they caterer for all dietary requirements they are by far the best chippy in town. Update Visted last week and the quality has gone down. Even the condiments on the tables are the cheapest you could get. No more Hellmann's vegan mayo either. Instead you get it in a tiny pot from a cheap vegan mayo brand from the waitress (tastes horrible) drinks now served in a glass Instead of cans. Meals not as good as they used to be. Clearly trying to cut costs but keeping there prices high! We got chatting to a table of holiday makers next to us who said they visited last year and it was lovely but wouldn't be returning again because of the poor quality! Such a shame. Won't be hurrying back anytime soon and definitely wouldn't sit in again as the prices are ridiculous for...

This visit took place on a Tuesday afternoon in Feb25. The shop is located on the main shopping area, Mostyn St, in Llandudno and is easy to find by its canopy adjacent to the bus stop. It has two sides to the premises. One is a take out with seating outside and the other is a café style restaurant, with toilet. It is accessible via wheelchair and enough room to manoeuvre. I ordered chips, which are available by the bowl ! Service is quick and efficient and the order was cooked fresh. The chips were made from good quality, tasty potatoes, cooked in clean and hot oil. This made them come out golden brown yet still fluffy inside. They were delicious. No other food was bought as this was a mid afternoon snack. Drinks are also available, good variety of both alcoholic and non. The restaurant was clean, well kept and decorated with amazing enlarged photos of the local area of bygone times.

Arrived in Llandudno after a very long drive in search of food, really fancying cod & chips. After searching for places to dine in the area that catered for Gluten Free, found Barnacles restaurant & takeaway. Greeted with a warm welcome on entrance, shown straight to our table with menu's, we placed our order for cod, chips, mushy peas & curry sauce, of which all was Gluten Free, so we were very happy. Our food arrived & we were Not disappointed at all, with all freshly cooked to order, we enjoyed our meal, fully cleaning our plates, not wanting to leave anything. We can not fault this restaurant & it's team, thank you to them all. We returned again 4 days later for Gluten Free battered sausage, chips & curry sauce, yet another enjoyable meal, we can not fault the food or this restaurant. Many Thanks again to all of the team working today who were happy to help.
