I stopped into The Adam and Eve on Oxford Street earlier this week after work and was genuinely surprised by how much I liked it. From the outside, it doesnāt shout for attention, but once you're in, itās clear this isnāt your average pub. The space is really well done, stylish without being pretentious. Thereās a bit of a modern edge to the decor: warm tones, thoughtful lighting, and a layout that actually makes sense (for once). It feels more put-together than your typical Wetherspoons-style spot, but still relaxed and welcoming.
The staff were friendly and seemed to be in good spirits, which made a big difference. It wasnāt hectic, but there was a steady flow of people, after-work groups, a couple of tourists, and what looked like a few regulars who clearly felt at home there. It had a welcoming buzz without being too loud or chaotic.
I ordered the fish and chips and it really delivered. the batter was crispy and light, the fish itself was flaky and fresh, and the chips were golden and properly seasoned. You can tell itās not just thrown together. My friend had the vegan burger and was actually impressed (and sheās not easily won over when it comes to plant-based options). Overall, the food felt like a step up from the usual pub fare.
Drinks-wise, I had a pint of Asahi which came out ice-cold and perfectly poured. Theyāve got a great line-up of beers on tap; a proper mix of familiar names and some more interesting options. I also tried one of their cocktails a āraspberry hibiscusā and honestly, it was a standout. Refreshing, not too sweet, and felt like someone actually put care into making it.
All in all, The Adam and Eve feels like a proper London pub that strikes a great balance, stylish without being try-hard, welcoming but not overly loud, and clearly run by people who care. Iāll definitely be dropping back in. Itās the kind of place you can settle into without even realising youāve...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe were a group of 10 people with a reserved area and a pre-booked Xmas Set Menu (Ā£35 x 3 courses).
Even though the food was pre-ordered we had to wait almost 1 hour for the starters. In the meantime unfortunately we were not greatly looked after, the service was super slow and poor and it was not even peak time. We costantly had to go to the bar to collect the missing glasses or cutlery or bottles of wine (we basically had to lay the table ourselves).
We were gutted when the starters arrived, I mean, they were just a joke - Very min standard quality food thrown in a plate with the minimum effort, as you can see from the pictures (my 2 years nephew could have done a better presentation).
The Main portions on the contrary were quite generous and tasted just ok, although the roast veggies (honey roast carrots and parnips) were cold ish and dry, the turkey was super dry (danger of suffocation) and again, the food was just an enourmous mess chucked in a plate. The best option was probably the smoked salmon. Roast potatoes ok.
Finally the Desserts, the "best" part......The "cheese board", if we really want to call it so, was missing few cheeses and quince (as you can see from the description we were supposed to get 3 cheeses, but we got only the blue cheese with an average cheap jelly) - I am wondering if the £2.50 supplement we paid on top was for the 2 very sad celery sticks - This is taking the piss! The vegan cake was burned and dry and missing the nuts. And again let's not talk about the presentation...
The bill: Set menu + drinks (we had around 8 bottles of wine, 1 draft beer, 2 Beavertown cans) - Tot around £519 excluding the £110 deposit already paid, which means £63 each. Considering the quality of the food and the poor service it's a total rip off, it's just not worth...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAfter coming in for a few Sunday Records and roasts, which we still love! Came in with some friends for Christmas dining, and I have to say, reading all these reviews, these guys are really getting judged against unreachable standards. While we were there, we saw some difficulty for staff as the pub was full of diners, and a delay is expected, but seems the Christmas spirit is lost to some and the amount of attitude and abuse we saw staff take (staff that were obviously working really hard) I think reflects hospitality nowadays.
We had a fantastic time, food did take a little while but with a full pub of diners, that is expected. Staff continued to serve and run around pleasing us and everyone with a smile, despite some fellow customers disdain for this, and props to the team as they didn't let this crush their spirit, serving with a smile regardless. Truly a gem of a pub and the 10 people with me all agree that they will be returning too, staff that looked united and happy to be there is rare to see nowadays, I just hope prior reviews and the attitude that we saw that day doesn't change their motivation. You're doing great, we'll be back. Ignore the pompous city folk!
Special shout out to the young black guy who we think was the GM that was running around keeping even the miserable people sweet and still had time to give us great service and a laugh. First time we've been served by a manager that obviously cares about...
