Food was pretty good but overall a frustrating experience Came as walk in and was told a 10 minute wait, which was fine. Several other walk ins arrived after us who I chatted to during the wait. When our table was ready I was led to a small table with tall barstools, which I would have presumed was for drinks. After asking if the stools lowered at all and being told no, with a laugh, I asked the member of staff if it would possible to wait to have a normal table as I am only 4’11 and the bar stools were around 3 foot tall. I had to struggle to clamber up onto the chair, with assistance from my partner, in full view of the rest of the upper floor of the restaurant. My partner asked this same member of staff, if we could be moved if a lower table came up as I was uncomfortable here. Within around 2 minutes of being at the table, the walk-in after me was seated at a normal table. Throughout the meal we asked again if we could be moved as several standard 2 person tables came up and were told no these are for bookings. By the time we left there were at least six empty and clean 2 person tables across the restaurant. Several other walk ins had been sat at normal tables during this time.
This meant I was perched uncomfortably for the whole meal and felt self conscious leaving and coming back to the table due to the difficulty of getting into these chairs.
At the end of the meal we raised this issue and explained that this presented accessibility issues and people shouldn’t have to disclose why they want to be moved to be treated with respect and have their needs catered to. And that if these seats were the only option it should have been mentioned prior to the wait. The member of staff was dismissive and offered no apologies, though we had been considerate of and asked politely if we could be catered for. We were just told again that there were bookings however we could see that several tables were free and other walk-ins were sat at these standard tables.
Therefore I would not recommend this restaurant for anyone short, elderly, with accessibility issues or is plus-sized as it can’t be guaranteed that you won’t be placed on these tables with no warning and no means of being moved. We found that the staff could be dismissive and judgemental of your issue if you do raise it, and so would not feel comfortable...
Read moreI really would not recommend this place. It's simply there to extort the most amount of money from you at the lowest possible cost to the business. It's poor food and poor service.
I went for a birthday celebration and I was nothing but disappointed and frustrated.
Whilst the food is supposed to look good on Instagram, it's very poor quality and cheap. I had the "Healthy Start" which consisted of a few raw spinach leaves, about 15 grams of tofu and 3 slices of overcooked, cold artichoke and a couple bits of broccoli.
There was nothing on the "sweet" section that was vegan and I wasn't drinking so kindly requested to just have the savoury meal as above. I was refused this by the server saying it wasn't possible. How is it not possible? Well it means they have to charge you less.
As I wasn't drinking, I opted for the soft drink option, which, on this BOTTOMLESS brunch was CAPPED at 4 drinks, ridiculous. I ordered my first drink and then had to fight to get another, a glass of orange juice took around 30 mins to arrive despite chasing multiple times, clearly a tactic to make you cost them less. After trying to get a third drink I basically gave up and settled for the tap water.
It was the same for those drinking alcohol, between 6 they were given one bottle of prosecco, and then had to fight for a second one a few times. That was it, they were not offered another. It's not a bottomless brunch if you constantly have to chase to get a drink.
Once we put down our forks we were promptly handed a bill for nearly £1000 and told to hurry up and pay as they needed the table.
All in all, I paid nearly £60 for a few bits of spinach and a few grams of tofu which probably cost less then £1 in ingredients.
It's a place that's about turning over as much cash as possible and not about the food nor the drink. If want a nice bottomless brunch look elsewhere, if you want somewhere to post a photo on Instagram to cost you 3 arms and 3 legs then this is your spot.
Update after response:
I was really excited to go here as their menu looked great and seemed to have good vegan options. They are also dog friendly which was a plus.
On the day, unfortunately I didn’t have a great experience - I’m not sure if it was an ‘off’ day for them but I just didn’t think it was anything special, definitely didn’t reflect the rave reviews I’m seeing online or their prices which I would say are slightly on the higher end so I would expect at least an enjoyable lunch (but it is soho so kind of expected).
I ordered the green risotto, which sounded great on the menu, it looked great when it arrived, but it was lukewarm and flavourless, so I wouldn’t recommend this dish. However my friends ordered the vegan burger which they said was nice and were happy with so maybe I just chose wrong - but the prices were quite inflated for what you get, the portions aren’t huge and the meals are around £20.
As it was my birthday my friend bought cupcakes which was a nice gesture to sing happy birthday, my friend asked a member of staff if it was okay to light a candle - and she was told that they charge a £25 ‘cake-age’ (corkage but with cake) we found this hilarious, but then realised she wasn’t joking 😂 so we saved that cupcakes for after we left!
The servers were friendly and attentive but we were waiting quite a while for ordering / food etc. so I’m not sure if they were short staffed. We also had different servers throughout our booking so it seems as if they just randomly served a table as they went around the floor.
All in all, the restaurant looks good and staff are friendly, but the atmosphere did feel a little lacking as a whole in the venue. Having a bad dish wasn’t great, and I do wish I’d have said something on the day but I was so hungry after waiting so long, I just ate it. The fact my friends enjoyed their food was a positive but is possibly an indication that their food is hit and miss, which doesn’t reflect well.
I wouldn’t return to Scarlett Green I don’t think, but would be open to trying their other venues around London - and maybe choosing a ‘safer’ dish like a burger which is difficult...
