Terrible experience! Would not recommend.
Having visited the Rupert st branch and enjoyed the food, I recommended to a friend to visit this newly opened branch near our office.
The place was practically empty with one other table occupied at lunchtime. I thought this would help us to get served and receive food in a timely manner. Our server, took ages to take our order even though I mentioned we were on a lunch break and wanted to speed things up.
She was pre-occupied with her phone, did not even provide cutlery (I sourced myself). Was a bit clueless on the drinks menu - we ended up sticking with water.
The menu was OTT yet inflexible. I wanted to order the 10 piece shrimp boil with sides and this was not an option for one person. The price of 10 pieces is exactly half the price of 20 pieces. My pregnant friend and I both ordered the shrimp and lobster roll with complementary fries and salad (from the lunch time menu). We were told it would take 10 mins. It took 30 mins. We received our food separately - My friend got her food first. I had to wait an additional 5 mins for my food. Not ideal when you want to eat at the same time and you've ordered the same meal. Not to mention very hangry.
My friend didn't receive a salad and spoke to the waitress. The waitress ordered something totally different for an extra £15. We were running out of time so suggested that we'd eat the food given but would pay what we ordered. The server was faffing around, got a colleague to speak to us. This colleague was rude, defensive and inflexible. Refused to let my friend eat the food and pay for the original price of what was ordered. Only offered to make another shrimp and lobster roll. I said I wanted to speak to the Manager - she said she was the Manager. The owner needs to provide training to their staff.
The service was simply unacceptable. My friend who was pregnant was distressed and hungry. We were told the new order would come in 10 mins. Again we waited a lot longer 25 mins and cancelled the order as we were well over our lunch break.
The prawn/lobster roll was terrible - the prawns in the bun were insipid and not much lobster was actually inside.
Bad service, bad food, and overall bad experience. Totally overpriced for the experience!. Would not recommend at all. We ended up being two angry crabs!!
Just read the response to my friends review - they even have the audacity to lie about timings on their cctv - pathetic. Most of these reviews are probably fake. Wierd that they all mention how great...
Read moreWe travelled down from Thirsk in North Yorkshire to eat here after being advised they had king crab, which is my very favourite food. My husband who doesn’t eat seafood opted for a salad knowing how desperate I was for this crustacean although he really wanted to go to a steak joint. I persuaded him this place was epic.
When trying to order a dip I requested just a plain butter dip but the chef said no. I had to pick one from the menu - strange as most available dips were butter based. It seemed like an odd thing not to facilitate.
Sadly the crab was icy cold at the shoulders :( I’m guessing not broiled enough) so having spent £69 on it I was mortified that’s like 5 hours of my working life to pay for this.
His salad… was as dry as a cardboard cutout. Served with balsamic vinegar (thick) but no olive oil. When asked if they had olive oil we were told again… no. This salad was so dry the edges of the leaves had taken on a grey hue and the fact it was rammed with super dry croutons also didn’t help matters.
There’s a shop right outside surely someone could have popped over? I dunno seemed a bit rude.
The atmosphere - oh god where to begin - the seats are so close together and no background noise was playing so I had to awkwardly listen to the first date couple next to us, and I presume them to us, notably when he attempted to eat a full shell on prawn head and all and his American date had to say “no dude what are you doing, you pinch it off like this”
We could also hear the conversation of the table the other side of us.
They either need some music or to sacrifice some seats for a bit of privacy.
Worst of all, I wanted to give them a chance to talk to me without posting on here as I guess public reviews can be damaging, but they’ve not bothered to reply to me.
Don’t order the £69 king crab. It isn’t worth it nor is it a good representation of what king crab should be like if you’ve not had it before.
Ryan…. You were the saving grace. Thank you for trying your best. Cocktails were superb.
Edited to add:
Please ask the server Ryan why I couldn’t order just a butter dip. I made it very clear that’s what I wanted.
I was not offered any replacement meal at all.
I emailed via your web form, no reply was recieved. Maybe you have an issue with your systems there. An email address for complains was not made readily available for complaints. I would rather have addressed this privately in the...
Read moreIf you're looking for bold, fresh flavours and a truly hands on dining experience, Angry Crab is the place. We went for the turf (something) bucket, and it was absolutely packed with perfectly cooked seafood and meat – more than enough to feed two people! The portions are generous, and every bite felt like a treat.
The way the food was cooked was spot on, everything was juicy, tender, and infused with their signature spices and sauce (we had the one that has a mixture of their sauces infused together). Speaking of spices, a word of caution: be very mindful when selecting your spice level. A little really does go a long way! We love a bit of heat, but their spice blends pack a serious punch. If you’re unsure, it’s worth asking the staff.
The atmosphere was fun, and cracking open the crab yourself adds a unique touch to the meal. Overall, it’s a fantastic spot if you love messy, finger-licking feasts, but make sure your spice tolerance is up to the challenge! And, I would suggest the management consider opening the upper level for...
