I visited the newly open branch in Borough Yards on mid-afternoon 07/08/222, with a friend. Overall, my experience was disappointing and I will probably not be visiting again for a while, as neither the food but most importantly nor the service were remotely inviting but rather dysfunctional and not worth the effort. First appearances matter: the restaurant was at less than 50% capacity when we visited but we waited at the door for a good 2-3min trying to catch a member of staff’s attention to be seated. On this point, we couldn’t tell who was staff! Whilst I am not suggesting people should wear a “uniform”, there has to be something to identify them, a badge, an apron... whatever. But really, the front of the house should do exactly that: pay attention to the front of the house! The space was very warm, unsure if there is aircon installed or not (defo not on the day). We were not seated close to the kitchen but after leaving our clothes had absorbed the smokiness of the place and this lingered for many hours, ventilation is poor. We got seated, offered the menu. We asked for tap water, this never came. We asked again, eventually a bottle of water came – this was room temp (remember: hot day, v warm space). We ordered our food and drinks. Our food came, our drinks not. We asked again. I had seen our drinks sitting on the bar counter for a good 20min – 2 x lemonades. Came with ice melted; did the bartender tell anyone that our drinks were ready? I ordered the bacon butter burger, my friend ordered the bougie burger, both medium. Sides needed to be ordered extra. My burger came as expected, medium but my friend’s was more of a steak tartare! Err, didn’t see that on the menu? She asked for a new burger and was eventually given a cheese burger instead – essentially she paid the price of a burger she didn’t eat! The waitress took away her cutlery, unsure why but probably to replace it, and never came but with another set. We asked again, waited and waited in vain. Eventually, I reached over to another table and picked up a set. On the day we visited the restaurant had a food promotion – without it, I would have been very reluctant to pay the service charge. In summary, very poor service, poor value for money. Staff appear to lack training, including communication and people’s skills. Food is not of the sort one would come back for; other similar venues offer much, much better quality of food. Whomever is in charge of this place, please consider not employing your friend or cousin or your best mate’s sister if they have no experience in hospitality. At the very least offer them training. Maybe they will improve with time, but I won’t be finding out...
Read moreI visited here on a Thursday evening, 27/3/25, at around 7:30pm. It was busy inside but there were tables available yet my friend and I were made to wait outside until the staff member could seat us. We ordered a drink and then proceeded to have sit out in the cold for nearly 40 minutes, with staff members just walking by and telling us that they'd come back to us, whenever we tried to get their attention. I eventually went in and complained, as we saw numerous people arrive after us and were seated inside almost immediately. It was only the fact that I complained, that we were eventually given a table inside. We were given menus and then waited for 15 minutes before any servers came over to our table. We both ordered burgers, with sides and sauces, our order was out pretty quick however they'd forgotten our sauces and we had to go and ask another server to get them for us. The food was delicious, and I would recommend the food, however the service is appalling. It's like all of the staff were on work experience or it was their first day, I cannot believe that in such a busy spot that the staff don't know the basics. We never had any service checks and then when the bill came it had an added 'discretionary' 12.5% service charge. I would always look to tip and am happy to pay a service change but when you don't get service, why would I pay it!? We asked for it to be taken off the bill and this was received with utter disgust, which was baffling. if you don't receive good service then why should you be expected to pay for it!! I'd recommend the food but not this restaurant unfortunately, there's better places to eat...
Read moreThis place ruined our evening. We had a reservation booked as we love the original restaurant in Shoreditch. Unfortunately, when we arrived we weren’t seated for 15 minutes, despite there clearly being empty tables inside the restaurant. We let it go because it’s day 2 of them opening and likely still finding their feet. When we were sat it was arguably one of the worst tables in the place, sandwiched closely between other tables with the walkway next to us so staff and guests kept bumping into us constantly. It was annoying because we booked, and we saw much nicer tables being given to walk ins minutes later. we were given a free shot as an apology for the lateness which was appreciated. That was where the good service ended unfortunately. We ordered starters and cocktails, 40 minutes later our starter arrived and we still had no drinks. The waiter with the hat was particularly rude and tried to make us order burgers despite us telling him we wanted our drinks first. He then took our starter away while we waited for our drinks. 10 minutes later and no drinks had arrived still, my partner got up and told what looked to be the manager that we were leaving as we hadn’t consumed anything that we’d ordered 45 minutes in. Our drinks then turned up as we were walking out, only for the waiter in the hat to chase us out of the restaurant yelling loudly at us in front of everyone. It was shocking, I have never experienced such dreadful customer service in my life. He really let his team and company down. Needless to say we will never return to this branch, and tell everyone we know to avoid also. I’d give it...
