I have visited this place twice in the last month and was happy with the overall experience.
First time I came was a week day around lunch time and didn't have to queue. I ordered the truffle scrambled eggs on brioche toast with an oat cappuccino. The eggs were amazing, runny and smooth and the truffle sauce was very rich indeed. The broiche toast was soft and fluffy too.
Second time I came with a friend for brunch on Sunday and it was packed with a queue outside. Luckily we were only two people so we only waited for 15/20 minutes and then we got seated outside. This time round I could really observe how they run the place and I must say it's a little hectic the way they opt to seat as many people first before taking bulk orders because the people who got seated early had to wait for a while before a staff member came round to take their orders and this was unfortunately our case as we waited at least 10 minutes and had to ask twice for someone to come. One of the forks they initially served us with had a lipstick mark on it too so the overall service and hygiene standards definitely need some more work.
This time we went with the wagyu beef hummus and the pancakes which were of a peach cobbler flavour. I think it's because of the way they run the place, our orders came out merely lukewarm as the pancakes were half warm half cole and the hummus with pita was only just about hot. They really need to improve on this. Nonetheless, the pancakes were absolutely fluffy and soft even though they were a little cold and the peach with custard sauce was nice and sweet, though we would have appreciated a lot more crumbles on top to give it a more fun texture. The hummus was nutty and smooth, went nicely with the beef and pomegranate which made it refreshing. The pita bread was warm and fluffy. We also ordered two oat flat whites and they were well-made.
Interior design is nice inside with a lot of space and they have clean bathrooms too. Overall, it's a good brunch place although it's definitely on the pricey side given the central London location. I would be happy to visit again and try...
Read moreI made a reservation as I thought it might be busy. When we reached, there was a small queue. The lady who greeted us was in a rush and asked how many of us. I told her and she said OK and rushed off before I could tell her that we had a reservation. She should have asked that first. When she passed by again, I told her we had a reservation and she said OK she'll get us seated. A few minutes later a table was ready. The waiter serving us was super friendly and I couldn't fault his service. The food arrived really quickly too, which was good.
One thing to be aware of is how pricey it is. I expected that as its central London, but even then, it's still pretty ridiculous. My main was £19 just for the chicken vol au vent, and didn’t come with any sides. The eggs florentine was 17.50, which is just a croissant with spinach, eggs and some sauce. The croissant was very rich to the point of being sickly. The vol au vent was actually really tasty but not £19 worth.
The smoothie was 7.50 and it was watered down and not thick how usual smoothies are. All drinks are at least £5 minimum, again, super expensive.
The Cheesecake was 12.50 and quite a large slice, very rich but again still not worth the price. The chocolate jar was 11.50, which was basically just chocolate sponge, chocolate ganache and vanilla ice cream. It was supposed to have biscoff cookies and which chocolate chips but there wasn't any. This definitely shouldn't have been more than £5, especially as the jar was quite small.
There's also a service charge of 12.50% which is stated on the menu that it would be added to the bill. Not sure if that makes it mandatory. Usually I ask for it to be removed, but I just paid it as I wanted to try this place out as its viral and not sure if I'd return.
It's a nice venue, spacious and has a pretty apple tree in the middle, but the prices are absurd, especially with a service charge on top. The waiter who served us was really great so that made us for the poor service...
Read moreVery disappointing experience yesterday at Apple Butter. When we arrived, there were many available tables and no one behind us in the queue. However, when we asked for a table for five, a staff member informed us that all five people needed to be present to be seated and that the three of us should wait for the other two to arrive. I mentioned that we would start ordering for all five before they came, but it made no difference.
This rule isn't posted anywhere and feels disrespectful to customers. Once all five of us were there, we were told we had to wait because there were no available tables for five at that time. I asked if the tables could be joined, but was informed that their policy doesn't allow it.
Small requests related to our dietary preferences, like having the mushrooms removed from our eggs or the beans removed from Quesadilla , were not possible to be addressed. The food also took a long time to be served.
Finally, when we asked the staff to split the bill based on our orders, the staff member asked us to do it ourselves by saying "Can you do it for me?"
I certainly wouldn't recommend this place to anyone unless they are fine with poor service. Out of the 5 orders, the only 2 that might be worth recommending if someone had to go there are the Om Ali and the...
