Staying at the Premier Inn we decided to eat at Bar + Block before heading out. We made a reservation but on arrival there was no one to show us to our table finally a young waiter did. He then took our orders for drinks after some time he returned to say they did not have the drink my husband had ordered he changed his order to be told the alternative was not available either. I was then told the drink I ordered was not available after changing finally drinks were delivered. Our food order was eventually taken but we noted and heard comments from the kitchen staff that orders were standing awaiting service. I have to say the food was very good but service and experience was worth zero stars. When the food arrived we asked for salt &pepper when it was brought to the table both were empty!! We sat a table near the bar and noted the side of the bar was very dirty when we pointed it out to the bar staff we were dismissed and told that we were being disrespectful!! All of this time the duty manager was not at her post it was up to two new staff to seat customers take orders and deal with complaints it was clear that both were doing their best but had not received any training or support whilst we were there a number of customers left after waiting too long to be served. Getting the bill was no better when it finally came we were charged £7.40 for my drink which on the menu was £5.09, the waiter changed the amount to £5.19 as that was the amount on the electronic system which none of the staff seemed to be able to use properly, we paid and left as we were going out but be assured we will never use...

The minute we walked in the manager said the bar couldn't cope with too many cocktails and the we could only order one round of the happy hour drinks. The place was completely empty so to be telling us off before we even entered was not very welcoming. Then we did order a number of happy hour cocktails, I paid 3 times at the bar with the business card and got receipts each time. I left about two hours later and checked with the barman if there was any bills outstanding. He said no. When I got home, I was inundated by calls from my employee and the manager of the bar telling me that 1. I owed £200 on the bill 2. they were trying to strong arm my young employee to pay it. 3. They asked me to send a copy of my bank statement which I did, but they then said the payment to Bar & Block was from a different branch. Nothing they said made sense. My employee confirmed that they had not ordered extra drinks. So I simply couldn't figure out what was going on. It was so confusing. I have never paid for drinks at any bar in the world and then be chased down for days being told the payment didn't go through. I could see on my bank statement that it went through so why they couldn't see it baffled me. It ruined the experience and severely stressed me and my young employees out. Read moreI have mixed reviews about this place, as the bar and dining experience were miles apart. The bar service from our arrival here wasn’t good, as the bartender didn’t make no attempt to acknowledge us and this is big no no for me. We wanted to dine and asked the process, and were told to go over to where the sign for eating was! This part of our experience was very good and the server here was smiley and chatty, asking all the right questions about allergies as we expected. Everything during our dining experience was fantastic and we would recommend the chateaubriand, as it was dish cooked to perfection and in our opinion great value for money. I can’t forget Tyrone who looked after us whilst we dined, as he was knowledgeable and very friendly. Our only fault with our evening was the bar service, as this was very shoddy in my opinion, as the guys working the bar were inconsistent in creating cocktails. As the Tiramisu cocktail my wife had, looked completely different to the customer next us which isn’t good. Overall for us if we were scoring this visit individually. We’d score like this.
