Bread Street Kitchen: Modern Comfort with Room for Improvement
I recently visited Gordon Ramsay's Bread Street Kitchen in Moorgate for a lunch without a reservation. Thankfully, the staff were incredibly accommodating and found me and partner a round table, despite not having booked.
The restaurant itself boasts a very comfortable, modern decor. Think more sleek lines and pops of colour than traditional fine dining. There's a downstairs toilet for convenience, and a cloakroom is available if you need to ditch your coat.
The service throughout my entire visit was excellent. The staff were attentive and friendly, even without a reservation. So kudos to them!
Now, onto the food. I started with the new spring/summer crab on toast, which was actually complimentary after I gave some feedback on the dish. It was a nice gesture, but the crab itself could have used a bit more oomph.
For my main course, I opted for the Thai red prawn curry. While the presentation was lovely, the curry itself felt very westernized and ended up being a bit average. The good news is, the accompanying crackers were delicious!
However, the BSK burger with a fried egg on top left me a bit disappointed. The combination of the egg and the patty resulted in a dish that was a little too greasy overall. Additionally, the burger itself lacked seasoning.
Travel Info: Getting to Bread Street Kitchen is a breeze thanks to its central location. Here are some of the public transport links you can use:
Underground: Moorgate Station (Northern Line) Buses: 56, 88, 141, 153 all stop nearby In Conclusion:
Bread Street Kitchen is a decent option for a power lunch in the city. The service is excellent, and the atmosphere is comfortable and modern. However, the food itself could be a bit more impressive. If you stick to classic dishes, you might have a...
Read moreThe worst dining experience we had during our stay in London. We were so excited to eat here and especially to order the Beef Wellington as we're big Gordon Ramsay fans. We had no qualms about the 45 minute wait for the meal, nor the high price tag (120 pounds) as we were anticipating a meal worthy of the high quality associated with the Gordon Ramsay brand.
For starters, the service was abysmal. The waiters barely visited our table. We waited quite a bit to have our order taken as they didn't seem to be aware that they hadn't attended to us yet; it wasn't until someone asked us if we were alright later on that we were able to tell them we were waiting to order still. Then, after we finished our first round of water, no other waiter came by to offer us anymore until we finally decided to flag one down near the end of our meal. Mind you, the wait for the wellington is 45 minutes and multiple waiters came by and looked at our table during that wait time and proceeded to just keep walking.
The beef wellington itself was a sore disappointment. The mashed potatoes that came with it were bland and flavorless. There was more butter and flavor in the side of spinach we ordered. The wellington itself was unevenly cooked, cold in the middle and overcooked in the outer layer. It was dry and nearly as bland as the mashed potatoes.
I really don't know what else to say. I've never made it a habit to write google reviews, but this place stood out to me because the experience was in such sharp contrast to what we expected of this brand. We'd saved it for our last day in London because we were so looking forward to it and wanted to end things off on a high note. Complete...
Read moreI got a voucher for Beef Wellington + Cocktail experience for two in Gordon Ramsey's restaurant. On the day, once we arrived, we were seated at our table and then we were completely forgotten about. There was constant rush around us, waiters running around, but nobody came to take an order, so we had to call someone a few times. Moreover, the menu for this experience didn't have any options apart from the additional wine pairing for additional cost. The starters were okish. The cocktails came in sticky glasses.
When we finished the starters and when the waiter was taking the platter away, he spilled a bit of one of the cocktails on the table and didn't even wipe it after that.
We had higher expectations for the wellington itself. It definitely isn't worth the money.
The biggest surprise was when we received the bill. We only ordered a bottle of still water (£5) as an extra to the experience, but the bill was £49.25 of extra on top of the voucher. I checked the bill and it said that the experience itself was £150 and then they deducted £130 for the voucher. Even though, their menu said £65 per person, so I have no idea where they got those £150. I asked the waiter and then he asked me for pointing it out and said that he'll change it, but trying to explain as it is supposed to be like that.
The new bill still had £26.25 that we had to pay, because the experience doesn't cover the service charge.
It's a bit strange that if you are given a paid for experience, you have to pay extra at the end. And also if I wasn't vigilant enough, they would've snuck in higher price than they have...
